I need a few volunteers that can send SSTV via AO-51 on Wednesday
afternoon for a demonstration as part of the ARRL TI-2 program that Mark
Spencer WA8SME is teaching. We'll do this via the 435.150 downlink and
an unpublished uplink. Interested parties will need to have operated
SSTV via AO-51 previously, and have an adequate station. Please drop me
an email tonight if you can help out.

Yesterday I booked tickets for my wife's family reunion (both her
Danish/German family and their American cousins) in lovely Flandreau, SD
from August 24 to 31. I'll be active on hopefully both the FM and SSB
birds from EN13 and will make limited excursions to nearby grids if
needed. I've put many of these on the air a few times over the last 10
years, but there are a lot of new grid hunters that need them I'd bet.
Drop me an email with your most wanted in that area, and I'll start
working on a plan of operations.

With all the talk about ISS, I decided to try. I heard Col Wheelock on
two passes but he never acknowledged my call. Then the pass today at
22:30 I was calling "KB8LFA Jeremy in Akron, Ohio"... He came back and
said "Got you loud and clear Akron, We are now passing ..."

It might not happen all the time and probably not at the exact time I
transmit but how do I know there was not a stronger station saying
Akron, Ohio as well? Is this what constitutes a contact w/NA1SS?

I may be wrong but "technically" you would need to have NA1SS repeat
your call to be a true contact - he may have written your call down and
forgot to acknowledge you by callsign in which case send a QSL and you
might get lucky - if not then keep trying, Its great when it does happen
and you know that an Astronaut flying at 17600mph in space is talking
directly to you!

Best of luck

I believe that's true however during my limited experience (listening to
a few passes, then trying to work 2 and finally getting him on the
third) I've *never* head him give a call. It's always "Hear you loud and
clear Cleveland" or "Got you Rick..."

Has this been other peoples experience?

I heard a mix. Often name or location, sometimes the call sign or parts of
it. He did my suffix, then the whole call on the return, along with the
location (state only). It was usually pretty clear who he was talking to
but I can see how there is room for improvement.

The main problem I had was not knowing when he was done with the previous
QSO, as he never prompted with QRZ, and only 73'd the previous caller about
a third of the time.

Hi all,
Pleased to report that I received good strong signals from Tsat-1 on
437.305 +/- doppler on a pass at
0903hrs Z from my QTH here in Wales (UK)
I used an Arrow antenna on a tripod feeding my FT736 and had no problem
copying the satellite.
Congratulations to all concerned. Another new one added to my list of

It?s the responsibility of ARISS to teach the ISS crews how to handle a pile
up and to teach them the correct exchanges.

ARISS has been successful in getting the ISS crews to pass their licenses.
ARISS has not successful in teaching the ISS crews how to use the Amateur
Radio equipment or the proper ?Exchange? protocols.

Unless you get a legitimate acknowledgment back, you have no proof he was
talking to you or to one of the other stations within a 1000-mile radius.

Hi All.
In order to expedite this info, here is the scoop.
To confirm a contact, you must send the information Date, Time, who you
talked to etc.
to:
ARRL Headquarters
ARISS QSL Expedition #24
225 Main Street
Newington, CT 06111-1494 USA

You must include a Large Self addressed envelope with enough postage to
