Hi!

I am in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island, at the north end of the highway
that runs most of the length of the island in grid CO60gr. During the
morning, I took a detour just as I reached this town to CO50 on a logging
road off route 19. Easy to navigate, but too many mountains without
still more driving and maybe even some hiking to get to a workable
spot. I backtracked to Port Hardy, found a parking area along the
waterfront, and will operate from here. Some lower hills from 90 to
180 degrees, but workable.

I have already worked 2 SO50 passes and an AO27 pass. I will try later
passes on AO27, AO51, FO29, AO7 once it switches back to mode B,
and even a couple of HO68 passes.

If anyone in the far northern reaches of Europe can work HO68 later today
at 2310-2317 or 0051-0101 UTC, those are times when I am in the
footprint. Maybe we can hook up on one of those passes.

As for tomorrow, I am looking at possibly CN78 on the Pacific side of this
island as my destination for most of the day. Then Wednesday will be more
sightseeing heading down toward the provincial capital of Victoria before
crossing back to Vancouver for the remainder of the week. Probably not a
lot of radio on Wednesday, but some - most likely from Victoria in
CN88. I won't worry about working from CN89 on the island - it is regularly
heard on the satellites.

Patrick,

Good luck with your vucc. I will be in dn36, dn37 tomorrow. I
will try and activate dn46/56 also if time permits and work you from the
dn45/55 line from your new grid tomorrow. I will be on so50, ao51, ao27
and ho68. Possibly so67 if it is on.

I hate to admit it, but I have been neglectful in sending out QSL cards a
couple times over the years.

I remember receiving my first few when I started working the satellites with
low power. Those were exciting to receive, indeed!

But I let a couple slip by that wanted return QSL cards ...

I will not do that again. I now realize that some hams are working on awards
- awards that mandate physical, paper QSL cards. It takes only a minute or
two to complete and run out to the mail box. And yours just might be the QSL
card that makes an award happen for someone!

So I apologize for my behavior in the past on this. I'll be a better,
prouder "amateur radio operator" from now on.

Pat, glad to work you on AO-7 mode B CW tonight. Didnt hear you on FO-29
though, but did work Mike WB7QXU for a nice SSB Chat. Thought I heard Kerry
WC7V on AO-7 CW after I ended with you, but not sure... was down to 2 degs
then.

?
Hi,

I am in Slovakia, grid JN88mf, for 3 more weeks and would like to make a few
more trans-Atlantic sat QSOs before I leave. The windows are very short but it
is doable.

I have already worked Nick KB1RVT and Scott N1AIA via FM on HO-68. I have
twice
heard Joe K3SZH on AO-7 SSB with a good sig but have yet to complete a QSO
with
him.

Please email me if we have a mutual footprint and you would like to make a
sked.
On AO-7, I usually call "CQ Stateside" around .160 when the bird is over W/VE.
If you hear me, try to complete the QSO quickly, as my sig will go from strong
to zero in a matter of seconds.

Hi Folks,

Only a few days to go before the Holiday Inn in Guildford, Surry releases

Further info, prices etc is at http://www.uk.amsat.org/content/view/32/42/

Hi!

My plan funtil sometime after 1500 UTC. Because of that, I will work the
1448-1510 UTC AO-7 pass from CN79/CO70 here. After that pass,
and after checking out of the motel here, I will drive to CN78.
Depending on the surroundings, I will try to work passes on my
way out there, which would be in different parts of CN79, until
I reach CN78. I may be able to park on the CN78/CN79 line,
which is just north of the Pacific coast down there, but the goal
today will definitely be CN78.

I apologize to anyone who tried to work me last night on FO-29
after 0300 UTC. I ended up talking about ham radio and my portable
satellite station to a few people who were walking along the
waterfront up there in Port Hardy. Thanks to WC7V and W6ZKH for
CW QSOs on the AO-7 pass just before 0300 UTC. What you guys
heard was left-handed CW, and I'm not left-handed.

I drove over 570km according to the car's trip odometer yesterday
(over 353 miles), including about 90km/55 miles on a dirt track for
my aborted attempt to work from CO50 before I started operating at
Port Hardy (CO60gr). I know the mileage (do I say that in a metric
country?) will be substantial when the car returns to Vancouver
airport on Sunday - a benefit of unlimited kilometers (mileage) on
the car rental. The fuel prices on Vancouver Island are around
C$ 1.11 or so a liter, about US$ 4/gallon at current exchange rates -
about as much as I paid during my 2008 summer road trip when fuel
prices skyrocketed in the States. A little more expensive, but I'm
having fun seeing a lot of this island - and, yes, I'm enjoying the
radio operating.

Looking ahead... I won't be on the radio much Wednesday and
Thursday. Wednesday will be a travel day - first down to Victoria
on the southern tip of the island, then the ferry crossing back
to Vancouver. I may work some passes in the afternoon from
Victoria (CN88) and *maybe* even on the ferry ride up to the
Tsawassen terminal south of Vancouver going through CN88 and CN89.
Thursday... maybe some radio in the afternoon, but I will be doing
stuff in metro Vancouver, and either Friday or Saturday (exact date
yet to be determined) will be my day-trip up to Whistler and grid
CO80. My flight home is Sunday afternoon, and I don't plan on any
radio that day. Have to get back to Vancouver airport to return the
car, do the flight check-in, and the US Customs/Immigration formalities
before the flight.

73!
