Subject: [amsat-bb] Any update on P3E?
I am wondering if there is any update to the status of P3E?
I have not seen any mention of it for a long time and wondering if it is
built and ready to launch or has the project been put on "hold" because of
launch expenses?
Any update would be appreciated!

Hi Peter, KD0AA
As far I know there are no new information from AMSAT-DL about
P3E but it becomes desperate to get a launch opportunity nowadays.
There are a some hopes of DLR (German Aerospace Center) funding
via the P5A project but as far I know there are no advances at this
moment.
Let us hope we can get another P3 satellite in our life time.
In my opinion most of the satellite builders in AMSAT-DL became
older and they do not see the younger generation stepping into the
footsteps of the older satellite builders.
It seems that the younger generation all want quick results instead
of a big project like P3E
The above statement is only my personal opinion but after the death
of OSCAR-10, OSCAR-13 and AO40 all my antennas and equipments
for HEO satellites becomes rusty under the roof and this is a reality
as you can see at i8CVS in QRZ.com
When OSCAR-10 was alive and well I abandoned the HF switching
to a promising satellite activity and I losted all my HF friends all around
the world.
When AO40 died I losted again all my satellite friends around the world
and actually let me hope I can get another P3 satellite in my life time and
start again.

Mostly because of the donation to AMSAT but also because Bob builds a
great antenna, I would encourage anyone who is thinking of getting on S
band to seriously consider buying this! I have one for 2.4 and one for
1.2ghz both built by Bob; they both work extremely well and a bonus is
that they are not at all big (dimensionally) which, for someone like me
living in "Condo Commander" land, is a real boon!
Bid without fear!

I will be conducting the second in the 2010 ARRL teachers institutes series
next week at the New Mexico Military Institute campus in Roswell (DM73).
The satellite and space technology unit will be conducted May 25 in the
afternoon. I will be attempting a satellite demonstration on the AO-27 pass
at 2049Z on May 25. I will be using the call W1AW/5. I hope you will help
with the demonstration and say hello to the participating teachers. If we
make contact, and you'd like a QSL, a simple e-mail request to me will be
sufficient (no SASE required, I'd send it back anyway).

Keep it up, Jimmy...It may seem daunting at first, but it is really
very simple...
A good place to start is the Satellite Handbook from ARRL..It IS
dated, but the info there will get you started...

Dave,
The Satellite Handbook was updated, I think last year, and was put
together by Steve Ford. I have a copy but I still refer to the Martin
Davidoff originals!

Just a note...
The Satellite Handbook is updated as of this year...
Another good place to find out about Sats is AMSAT.org
There you can purchase a book on "Getting started" and have many answers to
your present questions...
Good luck on the birds.

Yes, Marty certainly put it together, but all we had was 20 meters
when I got started on O6 & O7. And with O7 our "nets" cemented it
for a lot of us..And little time was wasted gabbing the way we do on
here today!!!

Hi Folks,
Oscar News has been published by AMSAT UK since the mid 1970's and we are
attempting to find some of the early editions which are absent from the
'master archive'.
The editions we are missing are numbers 1, 6, 13, 14,15 and 18. Also pages
5,6, 23 and 24 from number 180, Dec 2007.
If you have in your possession any of the above, I would be very happy to
hear from you - maybe even with a small reward if you have the lot!
