I am wondering if there is any update to the status of P3E?
?
I have not seen any mention of it for a long time and wondering if it is
built and ready to launch or has the project been put on "hold" because of
launch expenses?
?
Any update would be appreciated!

Watching from the sidelines (with my FT-847 and K3).
One of the reasons I held onto my FT-847 was that with the addition
of my DEMI 144/1296 xvtr the total outlay (when they were new) was
$1600 + $395 ~ $2K. And that covers 160m - 6m, 2m, 70cm, 23cm. The
FT-847 "IS" a satellite radio, full-duplex crossband. Too bad they
discontinued production (which begs one to wonder if there might be a
new version coming?). All radio are increasing in cost (it's called
inflation - err, or maybe more profit?).
When I bought the K3, I struggled with considering selling the FT-847
and buying DEMI 144/28 and 432/28 xvtrs. I also considered buying a
used IC910H. But, in the end, it made more sense to keep the FT-847
for satellite and casual VHF. The K3 is in a whole 'nother league
than the FT-847, as afar as receiver performance and that is why I
bought it. I did give in to buying a new DEMI 144/28 xvtr, so in
time if Elecraft can come out with duplex receive sw, I may add the
432/28 and finally say goodbye to the old FT-847.
For outright performance, either the K3 or Flex5000 own the real
estate (note: TS-590S has been introduced as a contender at
Dayton). How they are incorporated for satellite full-duplex
operation, remains. The IC9100, TS-2000x are not in that league, sorry.
I doubt that DEMI will enter the transceiver business (but?). I was
hoping RFSpace would come up with a dual-Rx SDR-IQ and/or
TCVR-IQ. The SDR field is wide-open as where ham radio technology is
going. "Theoretically" if you purchase a "good" SDR, you will never
have to buy any hardware, again - just new sw.
With the unlikely launch of new Heos, it is hard for the industry to
justify (new or existing) high-end satellite rigs. Icom obviously
bundled HF into the new radio to widen its appeal to those wanting a
one-box,does-all, radio.
PS: in the risk of repeating myself, I bought the K3 to be my
state-of-art receiver for eme, ms, mw, and general weak-signal
stuff. If it can eventually do satellite that would be an added frill.

Yaesu should "cash in" with a new satellite radio in the $2k price range.
It would likely be a "good thing." Almost $4k for the IC-9100 seems a bit
extreme...

I guess "about as much" is relative. Right now, based on sale prices,
there is right at $300 difference in the Flex V/U module and a TS-2000.
I don';t know about you but $300 is a decent chunk of change to me.
Besides that, we are comparing apples to oranges. The V/U module with
take advantage of all of the advantages that the Flex has over the
TS-2000 to start with. Not only will it be satellite capable, it will
also make the Flex 5000 a hot contender for other VHF/UHF weak signal
work. I've owned a TS-2000X before and while I thought it was a fine all
around general purpose rig, I never disillusioned myself into thinking
that it was anything more. From everything I've seen of the Flex it is
much more and will continue to evolve into much more given time.
I've owned my Flex 5000A a little over a month and I don't want any
other radio, satellite or otherwise cluttering up my operating desk. It
might take me awhile to afford to put the V/U module in my rig and I may
have lots more money in things than any other rig I've owned when I do
but IMO it will be worth it.

I don't think that it is due to ITAR as there are enough Europeans available
to complete the satellite. AMSAT-DL is trying to get government funding for
the Mars mission (P5A) for which P3E will be a testbed. They haven't made
any announcement about securing funding and now the EU appears to be in
worse financial shape than the US.

In the spirit of the Dayton $5000 challenge I am offering on Ebay my AMSAT
framed stamps.? 100% of the proceeds go to AMSAT.? I expect nothing less
than a spirited bidding battle for these stamps.? Remember we deal with
rocket science, and rocket science is not cheap!? Only one bid so far?? Are
you going to let that guy in So. Cal. walk away with these?? He's already
got that bracket thingy from AO-40 (sobsob).? Still waiting for the bidding
frenzy to erupt!

I agree with you. Yes there is a $300 difference, and thats why I said it
was "about as much". For me, $300 is $300, I was just saying the prices
were similar; as opposed to the huge price difference between the TS-2000
and the IC-9100. But again we don't have the technical specifications of
the 9100.
You and I are probably not the "average ham". I spend a considerable amount
of time on the air, whether it be on the birds, on 6 meters, or chasing DX.
I too am seriously considering the Flex 5000 as it does appear to be,
overall, the best HF/6 meter radio in the ham radio market today. I have to
consider whether my current HF setup of a Yaesu FT-950, along with the
RFSPACE SDR-IQ used as a pan adaptor, is dramatically inferior to the Flex
5000. I would appreciate thoughts about this (via direct email) from
someone such as yourself, or others who own the Flex.
What I am on the fence about, is spending that much money in a module that
will give me access to the existing fleet of ham radio satellites. Perhaps
one day I'll revive my interest in weak signal VHF/UHF capabilities, but not
at this time. For me it looks like making an investment in the Flex purely
for HF work, is looking like it's the direction I may go to; and later on,
decide on the direction of the world above 50 Mhz.
Which is why I believe that we could very well have options in the future,
other than the Flex module. And for now, my TS-2000 works great for me on
the birds, but don't get me started about 436.795!

Their website is always a good place to check for info, see
http://tinyurl.com/Amsat-DL
Basically funding is needed for the P3E and P5A launches I think it's
something like $10-15 million. I'm sure if they get that money it'll be
prominently displayed on the site.
The 2010 AGM & Symposium report on the top right on their homepage, it
mentions the Joint Feasibility study carried out with the DLR (German
Aerospace Center).

I cannot have conviction whether this is a right TLE.

Thanks John,
We are having problems getting the satellite through eclipse with the
transmitter on. Further reports are appreciated for both the 435.300 and
.150 transmitters.

Thanks for reading this post. The following have become excess to my
needs and are for sale:
1) KLM 22-element CP, switchable polarization - this antenna was
recently brought off my tower after more than 10-years of great
service. I have pictures of this antenna including several with my MFJ
269Pro connected showing 1.1:1 to 1.2:1 SWR across the 70-cm band from
432 to 445 Mhz that I can send to you upon request. Although the
antenna can be broken down somewhat into five shorter lengths I am not
at all sure that it can be shipped commercially. I have a price in mind
but let's talk. Shipping costs (if possible) will be extra.
2) Arrow II Model 146/437-10WBP with 10W duplexer & cables and nylon
antenna bag. Both packages never opened. $120 firm.
If interested in either item please contact me via email.
