I copied the AMSAT-BB with this as sometimes a hint or kink is passed on to
all.
You can use an old seaman's type of drain hole hint. If the hole is about
1/4" or so, get a piece of string and put a large knot on one end, pass it
through the hole and add another large knot with about an inch or so
protruding. As the wind blows, it knocks the string around and assists the
draining. I used it in many a situation with tuners and couplers and even
in satcom domes. The string acts as a deterrent to things going in and
clears the hole when the wind blows.
Hope this helps...

Some way must be found to plug the drain holes in such a way that lets the
moisture in and out, and keeps the insects out.
You really do not want to open the box and find a Wasp nest.

The AMSAT-TAPR banquet is only 2 1/2 weeks away. If you do not have your
tickets, they can be ordered at the AMSAT store. We will NOT be selling
tickets at the booth nor am I taking orders over the phone.

Hi Dee, NB2F
The solution that you propose is the best one I have seen to drain water,
umidity and moisture out of a relay or preamplifier box. The wind act as a
pump,simple and effective.

Hello Nate,
While I can't comment on the specific TNC hookup---please remember to
carefully check the MENU settings on the TS-2000. Pay special
attention to settings about baud (9600), etc.
For example:
50E MAIN
50F 9600
There may be others, but look over the menus carefully. There are
LOTS of things you can set in the radio--it's very handy!

Well just something the original author needs to bear in mind is he's
comparing a satellite that was launched roughly 5 months ago (ho-68) to
another that was launched almost 6 years ago (AO-51) so of course there's
gonna be some significant differences among them being mission objectives.
HO-68 is the first Chinese AMSAT and China is going through an industrial
revolution of sorts at the moment so it makes sense to make their first
AMSAT as advanced as they can make it to add to their list of technological
achievements. Its really comparing Apples to Oranges.
Unfortunately being a new ham myself I can't share the same sentiments as
the author seems to be more interested in CW then Voice/Data which appears
to be really his only reason for claiming HO-68 is a superior satellite. At
the moment I don't know CW and my interest in it is a passive one since I'm
more interested in digital modes like PSK31. That and it doesn't help that
my only dual-band vhf/uhf rig that I use for working satellites is an HT
either.

Yes, It was a momentary lapse of memory on my part, cheerleading for linear
satellites & HEO's. I had a couple of nice contacts. One was the ops first
satellite contact ever, and on a linear bird no less. He handled the
doppler like an old pro. The other station was the first contact for him
on HO-68. We couldn't have talked that long on AO-51, it would have upset
everyone trying to pinch out a grid.

Fine, I have no issue with that. Stop maligning the BOD though. Try
something productive if you want to help AMSAT, HEOs, or linear transponders.

Bob,
Neat observation. I was on this morning and worked Luc, VE2DWE and
only Luc. I found LHCP to be much much better on the downlink for the
entire pass, which is what I expected. I was under the impression the
435.150 antenna was LHCP. The pass this morning was close to directly
overhead. Was your pass near the horizon east or west?? Maybe it is a
squint angle issue?

Joe kk0sd
P.S. I hope to get on L band again, but my schedule is conspiring against me!

Greetings,

Please let me know by Wed evening 28 April if you can help out.
It makes scheduling easier if you will volunteer for two hour segments. Let
me know what days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and what times (in
multi-hour blocks) that you can volunteer and how many hours you wish to
work each day.
i.e. Friday between 1-5 for two hours and Saturday 9-3 for two, 2 hour
blocks with at least an hour between the blocks.
Looking forward to visiting with you at Dayton.
73,
Gould, WA4SXM

I have a Windows 7 Inspiron desktop. I just installed the SatPC32 for
GS-232. When I start SatPC32, it does not automatically also start SDX
as on my other computer. I can start SDX manually and can use the
"manual input" thing on SDX to speak with the GS232, reading current
position etc. But when I click up R+ SatPC32 has no contol over SDX and
the rotors do not move when I tell them to--like selecting "park." What
to do? Other features in SatPC32 seem to be working.

Hello Larry,
I suppose you run V. 12.8 or 12.8a.
>From the list in menu "Rotor Setup" choose the item "Yaesu GS-232". Save the
change with the upper "Save" button and restart SatPC32.
The program stores path and filename of ServerSDX.Exe in the aux. file
"RotorServer.SQF" in the SatPC32 data folder. The path of the data folder is
shown in a foot line of menu "Satellites". RotorServer.SQF can be opened
with Notepad.
It should now contain the following line:
C:\Program Files\SatPC32\SDX\ServerSDX
Does the program now start ServerSDX?
If not, try whether it works better when you start SatPC32 with the option
"Run as Administrator" (Right click on the file name and choose that
option).

Erich,
I run 12.8a. Your first suggested fix fixed it! Thanks. Now another
question.
Whenever I start SatPC32, I get a modal message box containing
"OLE-Fehler 8004503A, ClassID: {A5584957-EF07-419C-BACD-9931F1256D92}
." What is this about? It happens twice upon starting SatPC32, plus at
other times including when I either OK or Cancel out of the Satellites menu.
I'm now waiting for a good pass to check out the whole system.

Reading the AO-51 book by Gould where?he discuses the L band requirements.?
For occasional contact 150 W EIRP is needed.? For superior performance 1 Kw
EIRP needed.? Assuming I start out with 10W to a 16 turn helix 40 feet
away.? Guesstimating- 5-8 W at the antenna, helix gain 8-12db.? Guestimated
EIRP about 40W (worst case). ?Am I figuring this correct?? If so then AO-51
is performing better than what the book says.? I am trying to "fine tune"
what I have.
Thanks 73 Bob W7LRD
