Hi David, G0MRF
During the Arecibo EME test on day 16 April from 16:45 to 19:30 UTC the
sunset for me in JN70ES will be at 18:01 UTC so that no noise will be
received from the sun when it is belove the horizon and the moon at 20?
Elevation
On day 17 April during EME test from 17:40 to 20:20 UTC the sunset will be
similarly at 18:06 UTC
On day 18 April during EME test from 18:40 to 21:25 the sunset will happen
before the beginning of the test and at 18:40 UTC the sun's elevation will
be already negative -10? with the moon for us at 36? elevation
In Europe the situation is similar and we should have no problems receiving
and trying QSO's with Arecibo using antennas and receivers for satellite
traffic as on FO-29 and HO-68
The problem is that in Europe there are many powerful 432 MHz EME
stations and everybody will be hungry to make QSO with KP4AO
In USA the situation is completely different because the elevation of the
sun and the moon is about the same around 60? but the azimut is shifted
several degrees so that using antennas with gain of 15 dBi or more the sun
noise should be rejected.
Good luck with Arecibo to everybody

Any news on if LoTW will support HO-68? I've emailed the ARRL but
haven't heard anything back.

I joined AMSAT as a life member at the Orlando Hamcation a couple of years
ago, and acquired SAT32 at the same time.
I followed the directions on the previous email and cannot find the program
SuM in the SAT32 folder or in the program list when SAT32 is running. (Do I
need to look on the original CD installation disk as well?)
Alternatively, I think I will load the keps for the Moon into SAT32; I know
there was a thread on this subject a few months ago.
Thanks for a great BB!

Hi Piraja , PS8RF
I have heard the wav CW file of PY4ZBZ receiving Arecibo on 22/03/2010 at
21:30 UTC in 432.045 MHz with only a small UHF antenna for 6 elements
and a simple FT1000d transceiver.
http://www.qsl.net/py4zbz/satelite/KP4AO_EME_CW.wav
I am happy that the above result demontrates in practice my article because
the CW signal is barely audible into the noise.
I was not able to hear the SSB wav file because my PC says that the file
comes to me corrupted.
http://www.qsl.net/py4zbz/satelite/kp4ao_eme.wav
If you send to me both wav files I will measure instrumentally the real
(S+N)/N and S/N for a more precise analysis.
By the way as I stated in my article the reception of Arecibo using a small
hand-held yagi pointed at the moon is very difficult "but not impossible"
Congratulations to Roland PY4ZBZ

Philip,
When you install SATPC32, it creates a folder in the program start menu
which includes numerous programs: SATPC32ISS, AOS, LISTEN, SuM, SuMLISTEN,
and others. It does not appear in the program list from within SATPC32.
If you can't located the SATPC32 start menu folder, take a look in
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\SATPC32" for all the EXE files. SuM.EXE will be one of
them.
Thanks for joining AMSAT, and especially the Life Membership!

In my satellites drop down in SatPC32, I have a file called moon.txt. I
can not recall now where I found it. I think it was from a comment here
on this BB. I tested it once and went outside to see where the moon was
at that time; and that tracking seemed to be correct. If I find the
original email, I'll send it on.

On your computer click start, programs, SatPC32, and it should expand with a
list of programs. SuM should be in the list. I am running Vista, but XP
should be similar.

I just tested the keps below from moon.txt. SatPC accepts them ok, but
unfortunately here in Plains, Montana right now we have 100% overcast so

Tried ITrack, SuM, and TRAK_SM. All three agreed perfectly, 2-3 figures
past the decimal point.
Tried the MOON.TXT keps. WISP choked on them. SATPC32 accepted them, but
the azimuth was about 4 degrees different, and the elevation off by about 15
degrees. Since SuM is correct, it looks like the pseudokeps are only close.

AO-51 is now running two repeaters. 145.88/435.15 is for contacts by and
with the Boy Scouts celebrating their 100th anniversary this week, and
when not in use by the Boy Scouts, QRP stations are welcome. We define
QRP as 10 watts or less, AND omni or handheld antennas only.
145.92/435.3 is still open for general traffic, and for now the PL
access testing continues. Power output is 450mw on 435.150, and 470mw on
435.300.

Reid Crowe, N0RC, has been very active from grid square FQ-56 in Greenland.
He is operating on the FM satellites and he has set up a Google Groups at
http://groups.google.com/group/ox-thule-2010/topics where he posts his
anticipated operating schedule. This information has been on the Amsat-BB
previously and it also appears on the "Launch Pad" of the AMSAT website. I
only list again here as a reminder because Reid is an excellent satellite
operator who wishes to work as many stations as possible while he is in
Thule, Greenland.
Enjoy,

Hello Philip,
what SatPC32 version are you using? Older program versions (older than 12.8
if I remember correctly) didn't include the SuM files. These programs could
be downloaded separately from my website. Beginning with V. 12.8 the SatPC32
setup program installs also the SuM files into the SatPC32 folders.
