I picked up a Dressler VV2000 GAAS preamp yesterday at a swapfest, and
wonder if anyone on the board has ever used one? It is a mast mount 146-148
mhz Low Noise Preamp with N connectors. I have the manual, which was
downloaded off the internet.

Just curious as to see if anyone else had one of the critters...and any
comments... it can take 1kw of power.......dont think my FT847 will ever do
that...

There is a new graphic on my webserver that
plots all of the grids that K4T worked on the
satellites. They easily achieved VUCC in just
a few days by working 127 different grids and
about 422 satellite qso's. VUCC seems a long
way off when you first start collecting grids,
but if you stay with it, you'll have the award
in short order. Getting the cards, of course,
is sometimes more difficult than making the contact!

Congratulations to the K4T Team for working over 100
grids from the Dry Tortugas!

The graphic is here:

Hello,

I have been listening to RS-15 beacon for several years
and it is still a mystery to me.

I have heard it turn on in less than 60 seconds of entering
sunlight. It will also remain silent while in continuous
sunlight for weeks.

My feeling is RS-15 is in a slow tumble with only some of
its solar panels working. If it is in the right alignment with
the sun, it will come on. I have noticed that the "beeps"
seem to get longer the longer it stays on. Several years ago
the "beep" seemed to be as long as the CW telemetry
frame it used to transmit.

All,

this morning I made some very interesting measurements of the beacon signal
from RS-15.

Does anyone know the relationship between the length of the carrier and
(presumably) the temperature?

The length varies between 1.5 seconds and sometimes over 20 seconds.

You can see some interesting graphs here: http://www.dk3wn.info/p/?p=13008

Thanks and 73,

Mike

My webserver has been updated with Grid Maps
from N5AFV, KD4ZGW/M, ND9M, K4T and WD9EWK. I
hope to have something from XE2AT as he is the
VUCC leader with over 900 grids confirmed.

Click on the images to download an Adobe Acrobat
file which can be zoomed for a better look.

If you want your grid map on this page just email
your grid list in a .txt or excel file. Or create
the map and email that. Adjust the radius to make
the graphic more detailed.

There are also approximately 25 audio recordings
of satellite passes over the last 4 days. If you
have been operating or have tried to make a satellite
qso, you may be able to hear yourself on these
recordings. More audio files will be posted as time
permits. There is no intention to upload every satellite
pass as it takes a bit of work to do this every day.
If you are new to satellites and are not hearing very
well, these recordings will give you an idea of what
goes on during a pass. Enjoy:

Hi John,

Thank you very much for doing this! It's really helpful to see where
we (K4T) actually made satellite contacts.
