OUTSTANDING, PETER!

It has been great sending email messages back and forth with you last year.

Then actually speaking with you on your VOIP net last week.

NEXT: Actually meeting you!

You'll do great at the hamvention. Just be yourself - you've got the right
attitude and enthusiasm. Have a pad and paper handy for any Q&A inquiries
that you cannot immediately answer for your audience: They'll appreciate the
fact that you promise to get 'em the answers via email ASAP.

Such a shame. I hope they are not still overselling the amount of
revenue it can or will generate from sales of premium services as a
means to lie their way to funding for birds/launches.

Next, I thought Martin was no longer chairman of SSTL but very happy to
see it go to Surrey if it has to go anywhere at all.

Trevor:

You call it "the other issue" but it is the only issue. They do not
give a tinker's damn if they interfere with us (and I suspect they
won't) but the ability to sell receivers with CRAP for front ends (in
terms of dynamic range, IMD, etc.) making it cheaper to manufacture is
severely hampered by the "licensed stations" in adjacent bands. There
will be regulatory relief sought for the "health and safety" etc.
services provided by Galileo from those stinking pest hams who are
simply obeying the law on their licensed systems.

I am still of the opinion that this system serves no useful purpose
whatsoever except to say "us too". It is a political impossibility to
turn on SA now in my opinion but now there will be no need to at all. I
suspect a treaty guaranteeing no SA and no allowance for design and sale
of jamming equipment would be a LOT cheaper than this system.

Hi Alan,

I have some questions regarding HO-68..

Would it be possible to reschedule HO-68 for Australia and New Zealand
at more appropriate times around the 22:00UTC passes ?

Its currently not operating , in our corner of the world, around the
22:00UTC timeframe, that is morning for us, and it would be nice to be
able to use it during daylight hours. The current times are near 10pm at
night for us or midnight+ for New Zealand !

Also, why does it need a schedule, is there not enough power to operate
24/7 ?

thanks

Tim

The answer is very simple: There will be - no Soyuz test launches -
from Kourou....
It's a proofed and robust rocket. There are already commercial customers
booked for the first flight..
Otherwise P3-E would be on it.. ;-)

Record is edited to save ears from noise and it is short:

There were a longer pauses between transmisions caused by interferences.

Hello all,

I posted a short video with the contact maintained today with Andre, ZS2BK
via AO-7 in mode B ( Orbit 60848 - 19:47 UTC - 01/08/10 ). We keep the QSO
with a small window that the AO-7 has provided us. The window was only about
34 sec, this time interval we could not match any commit error. The distance
between the two stations is 4085 miles or 7669 Km.

Andre wrote via email: "

Andre is right the time was too little for adjustments. Taking also into
account that I manually worked the rotor and control of my rig.

I may have some of the tubes that have been mentioned in this thread laying
around.... about 25 years ago, I picked up a dead railroad Prog Line at the
Wilkes Barre hamfest and, after discovering that the power supply section
was seriously fried, I scrapped it. However, I saved all the tubes in case
any were a match for an old Motorola tube rig that I picked up around the
same time, and still have in the attic. I also have a lot of old TV tubes
from my dad's "stuff", as well as some spares from a WW II VHF DF set
(BC-639, maybe?).

Will check this weekend if I get the chance.

Peter. this has to have been a win win situation for everyone. It
essentially puts the final nail in the coffin of sea launch, the US has no
real competition to the equatorial launch site...(OK Kwaj but thats still
sometime in the future) and positions "that side of the pond" with a rocket
that can at least take on SpaceX should (and when in my view) the Falcon9
and Falcon9 heavy make it into orbit. Musk has Kwaj (or Australia perhaps I
know he is looking "down there") but the only way The Europeans and Russians
start losing commercial payloads back to "this side" of the pond is if Musk
is a success.

Otherwise not a chance that Delta and Atlas will compete with the systems at
Kourou...

pretty shrewd move Robert WB5MZO

Hello Piraja and all

Congratulations, a great feat!..? I also am looking forward to a edge to
edge QSO with PA1TNO in JO22li? from CN87wk.? If ever successful it would be
7837km.? The allotted time is around 25 seconds ?I think though to be
successful I might have to increase the height of my satellite array to 50
feet.? This is divorce height, so? efforts will be made at the 18 foot level.

"My Doppler calc was also gratefully spot on. For example I calculated that
I should call so that my downlink is on 145.944.2 mhz
I worked out that our Doppler difference would be 3.8 khz and amazing that
was spot-on. There is really no time to tune !"

Andre is right the time was too little for adjustments. Taking also into
account that I manually worked the rotor and control of my rig.

I hope you enjoy it

Just Google 'PB PG Linux' and you'll find what's out there...a few
options exit for Linux.

I am not aware of any other Windows options--but you could probably
get the DOS versions of PB and PG going again for fun...(it wasn't
that much fun, by the way!)

Hi all,
I'm just listening for a SO-67 pass and the satellite seems not
operational at this time (8:40 UTC) but around 435.355 MHz +/- doppler
I started hearing a kind of cw telemetry in short intervals. They are
6 letter "packets" or so, like ISUN44. I didn't copy other packets as
I was busy trying to identify the satellite with the tracking program,
but it must not be one of my "favourite" ones.
What was I hearing?
Thanks
Frank IZ8DWF (currently in JM49MG).
