I hope you didn't order the Yaesu CN-3 adapter. It should be taken off the
market. It provides absolutely no protection/strain relief to your new HT's
SMA connector when in use.
Stephen Gulyas makes "intelligent" BNC-toSMA adapters ... which have a hard
rubber gasket that "mates" to the top of a radio. VERY protective from the
stress and strain we place on our radios when changing out antennas.
Scroll down half of this page to download a copy of what Stephen offers ...

I will second that recommendation. I took a series of pictures of my new
rig, sent them to Stephen, and he came up with a recommendation which is a
perfect fit for the DJ-G7. It may not be on that list, but he will know
which one you need. It will even handle the Pryme AL-800 antenna. Probably
the best made component on my rig. ;) He runs a small operation, but is a
real craftsman.

Hi!
The 1619 UTC SO-67 pass was a nice one covering virtually all of
the continental USA and most of Mexico as the satellite moved
southbound. I was operating from DM43iu, about 60 miles/100km
northeast of Phoenix, where the satellite was up to a maximum
elevation of 53 degrees. Stations were heard from Oregon to South
Carolina, and as far south as central Mexico. You can hear my
audio recording at:
http://so67.wd9ewk.net/
(look for the MP3 with the filename starting with 20091227)
This was the first SO-67 pass I worked in over a month. It seems
like most have compensated for this satellite's unique
characteristics. Waiting for the carrier to drop, even for the
briefest of moments, makes a big difference. If you don't wait
for the carrier to drop, a quick unkey of the mic and then keying
the mic again also works - as long as you are working full-duplex.
Thanks again to AMSAT SA for the satellite and the generous
scheduling over the last few days.
Near the end of that pass, Uriel XE2VAS was briefly heard from
grid DM40 approximately 40 miles/60km south of Nogales AZ in
northern Mexico. Uriel *may* be operating from DM40 over the
next few days, FM satellites only, for those who may need/want
a QSO for that grid. If you work XE2VAS, whether from his home
grid DM41 at the USA/Mexico border or from DM40, you may send
your QSL requests with SASE to my PO box.

Hi!
Uriel XE2VAS (also N2IY), who lives in Nogales in northern Mexico
(grid DM41), was on a couple of satellite passes from the rarely-
heard grid DM40 today. He will try to be on other FM satellite
passes through Thursday (31 December). Anyone working XE2VAS and
wanting a QSL card can send the QSL request with SASE to my PO box.
Please do NOT use the mailing address for XE2VAS or N2IY on QRZ.com.
Thanks to John K8YSE, I was able to hear the audio from the AO-27
pass at 2032 UTC this afternoon with XE2VAS. I will send this to
Uriel, so he can hear how he sounded through the satellite.
Although Uriel has a 2m FM mobile radio and an IC-706, it sounded
like he was using an HT with his Elk log periodic antenna on that
pass.
Please remember that Uriel's first language is *not* English. If
you want a better chance for a QSO, please use standard international
phonetics for your callsign and grid locator. An even better option
is to use Spanish-language digits with phonetics for your callsign
and grid locator in a call to XE2VAS. K8YSE and N5AFV both did this,
and quickly completed their QSOs. Since hams in the USA and Canada
are only required to ID in English at the end of a QSO (English or
French, for Canadians), making the initial call to a station like
XE2VAS in Spanish *is* legal - as long as you make your legal station
ID at the end of the QSO.
Good luck and 73!

Hi All,
Last night I thought I heard a LU5OJ? on HO-68 right after AOS. If you
know who this might have been, please let me know. I'm also interested
in schedules for SSB QSOs with new stations/grids/countries, especially
those stretching the footprint on HO-68, during linear transponder passes.

That was LU5BOJ/O from FG75 whom I worked at 01:52 UTC. We worked briefly
as he was about to lose the bird. Not sure why he used the portable
designation. It was O for Oscar as per his phonetics, and not a zero.
Perhaps it's required in his country while working through a satellite?
It's interesting that his first name is Oscar.
That's the first station I have heard from Argentina on any of the birds.

Go to Satellites, then the Selected column. Highlight the desired
satellite, then click the Show On/Off button. If the satellite has an
asterisk in front of the letter, it will show up on the Multisat mode.

Awesome! I called him but had another station reply to me. I'll keep an
eye out for him on the air and try to find an e-mail to set up a
schedule. I've worked LU on AO-40 and I think AO-10, but I don't think I
was able to get a QSL for those QSOs. I assume you worked him en Espanol?

You're 100% correct.
That callsign LU5BOJ/O would be a valid call in Argentina. Unlike
in many places like the continental US where the digit indicates the
area where the call was issued, in Argentina the first letter after the
digit is used for that. LU5BOJ is a call issued for the city of Buenos
Aires (also known as "Capital Federal"), separate from the province
of the same name that surrounds that city. It is like how the US
capital city Washington DC is separate from the surrounding states
of Maryland and Virginia. The "/O" shows he was operating from
somewhere outside his home "province"; in this case, LU5BOJ was
in Salta province in the northwest of the country.
You can see a map and how those indicators match up (thanks to
my friend Diego LU8ADX) at:

Congratulations! Maybe more will show up on HO-68 or even AO-7
if equipped to work the linear transponders.

(I was down there in 2004, operating briefly as LU/WD9EWK. Foreign
hams do not have to put the indicators like "/O" after their calls to show
where in the country they are operating from as the locals )

Hi All,
Last night I thought I heard a LU5OJ? on HO-68 right after AOS. If you
know who this might have been, please let me know. I'm also interested
in schedules for SSB QSOs with new stations/grids/countries, especially
those stretching the footprint on HO-68, during linear transponder passes.

Hi!
I received an e-mail from Uriel XE2VAS earlier this morning. He
said he was on AO-27, SO-50, AO-51, and SO-67 during the day
yesterday (Sunday, 27 December) from the small city of Imuris,
about 70km/43 miles south of Nogales and the USA border in grid
DM40. In a change of plan, he will not return to DM40 until next
Sunday (3 January). On that day, he will attempt to work any FM
satellite passes while he is down there.
