I've used the same tape-measure antenna with a dual-band HT for quite a few
portable satellite contacts, as well.... it works amazingly well for being
a "2-meter only" antenna! In fact, there's a picture of me working AO-27
with it on my QRZ listing....

Hello,

The satellite AO-7, is not active, I could not listen to the Beacon or my
return in mode A and mode B today at 19:55 UTC. Looking at the list of
website logs and Oscar satellite status, the information is that the
satellite was turned off after 13:00 UTC. Let's hope it's nothing serious
and that soon the AO-7 is reinstated.

Please check that carefully. My experience after trying to contact them on

I'm not going to go into detail, but your assumption is not 100%
correct. I'll get the command station to look into why she's off the air.

AO-51 is almost back to normal. The normal repeater is running at 400mw,
and the telemetry downlink at 620mw. After everything is reloaded and
double checked, we'll shift the majority of power over to the repeater
and turn the L uplink for the PBBS back on. Thank you to those who sent
reports and telemetry over the last few days; it was helpful. Please
understand if we don't get a chance to answer and thank you all
individually.

I also had a discussion with the primary AO-7 command station this
evening, and he will begin to investigate what has happened to AO-7.
There is a possibility that it simply glitched into another mode and is
stuck there until it is commanded back, or until eclipses return. AO-7
is still solidly in continuous illumination at present. Be prepared,
there may be much less palatable scenarios as well. This satellite is 35
years old, one of the oldest functional satellites anywhere, and to say
we have had her on borrowed time is an understatement. Please post all
observations of activity on the downlinks to amsat-bb; we really only
need to know if you did hear it. Check 435.100 along with the
transponder downlinks and beacons.

Hi Dew, KO4MA

I cannot understand if you are a command station that was able to send
succesful commands to AO-7 after she's resurrection or if you are only
a command station trying to actually look at what happens to AO-7

It is not necessary to go into details with me because I know the whole
story of commanding AO-7

I have infact a folder with all messages sent by Larry Kayser VA3LK on
this BB about this matter of commanding AO-7 beginning from 4 july
2002 until 4 march 2004 just before Larry went SK in october 4, 2004

I don't want to be a trouble maker but did you ever think your A148-3S was
developing some issues with the years? I will pay your S&H in
full just shipped your A148-3S to me and i will even add 25$ to pay the
hardware used to build your new tape measure antenna.

Plus a bonus donation of 10$ to AMSAT-NA. (no string attached)

Thanks a lot Alan and David,

I made very simple graphics of XW-1 elevarion x time; beacon freq
received x time; beacon power output decoded from TLM x time. Not sure
If is usuall but It seems that the beacon power raised from 80 mW to 175
mW in 3 minutes of monitoring.

They are at: http://archangelo.net/misc/sat/xw-1/view.htm
