The digipeater on TXB is "ON." We are collecting telemetry (every 30 secs)

As per my Listening on AO-51 it seems a magnet reversal will be done pretty
soon to replace AO-51 in his previous attitude feet to head

Technically all 47 CFR Part 15 devices must accept any interference and not
cause any interference. However, in a practical sense, there are so many
433 MHz Part 15 devices around that it would be VERY difficult, if not
practically impossible, to eliminate all of them.

For example: There are hundreds of thousands (and probably millions) of
remote temperature sensors used by homeowners that operate in the 433 MHz
segment. Not that long ago my wife was in the process of purchasing one of
those "atomic clocks" (actually the ones that sync to WWVB) and most of them
have a remote temperature sensor included. I noticed that, depending on the
manufacturer/model, that these remote sensors might operate on the 433 MHz
segment, on the 960 MHz segment, and some on the 1.2 GHz segment. Although
I don't operate on the 23 cm band I do operate on 432 MHz. Therefore, I
made sure that she got a clock with the 960 MHz remote sensor so that there
was no chance of it causing problems to my operations.

However, there are definitely quite a few 433 MHz sensors operating in my
neighborhood, I can hear several as I rotate my 432 MHz yagi. Although I
have lived in this particular house for well over 37 years, I don't believe
that I would be very popular if I even tried to locate all of these 433 MHz
devices and then press the FCC to shut them down. Besides, I don't think
that the FCC would put a very high priority on this particular problem.

As for ISM: 47 CFR Part 18 Section 18.111(c) gives priority to ISM
operations when the operations are within specific frequency segments which
are listed in 47 CFR Part 18 Section 18.301. There are 12 frequency
segments listed in this section. Fortunately, the 70 cm amateur radio band
is not one of these segments.

BTW: ISM refers to services that do not intentionally radiate and do not use
radiation for communication purposes. A Microwave is ISM. A WiFi is not.

Three problems: as with AO-51 the CTCSS tone is blocking a lot of station it
was the same when ISS cross band repeater was on too. When XW-
1 was over central USA his footprint was covering nearly all the Northern
continent including central america and the Carribean island with
all the Northern satellite station in the same footprint it should be a
challenge at the satellite receiver to have one station able to
make it through that's the second one and for the third one the packet BBS
also is competing at the receiver and i'm guessing at the
transceiver too as i never heard the packet transmission over a phone
transmission. Without any knowledge of the ways the transmitter is
voting or who's got the priority first it is hard to tell if this packet
turn over is not also a contributing factor as many of my
transmissions where shut down to just get a packet burst afterwards?

I missed the linear transponder but i'm guessing it will be "The mode" on
XW-1 as per what i heard from the recordings.

It is a great sat and as i wrote a nice christmas gift with SO-67 as a
suggestion the FM/BBS mode can be put in service in light traffic
pass as it is permitting less traffic than the linear transponder, but it
can be an alternance of both. Let see what the european pass will
give as the whole europe will be in the same footprint!!!.

For the magic in my antennas there is none that i know but operating in full
duplex is a big help as you can choose when to key the TX but
as we cannot get a constant TX from the satellite we probably often transmit
over each other Letting the receiver only activated by the
carrier will at least make us hear through the capture effect and it will
tell us when it's time to TX? It will not solved the tailgating
problem but it will help.

P.S. There is also a trick on XW-1 as there was one on SO-67 i will have to
check it again but he's not much nicer than the one i discover
on SO-67 fighting against the 3 seconds timer... Just remember i wrote
"fighting"!

Nice recording although I think I'm hearing 60Hz hum. I shudder the think
what the Europe pass will be like later today. You are very disciplined on
the FM transponder!

Again, many thanks to our friends in China for this excellent Christmas

Do you try manually without any cable connected from a tracking interface to
program another tone pressing menu button selecting menu item
12, then selecting any other tone and exiting pressing the menu button
again. This operation should put the FT-847 in any selected tone and
you just have to press the tone button (3) to enable it.

If it's not working you already have the solution that i used about 3 times
since i got my 847 9 years now.

Hi,

I missed the transponder pass, but managed to catch the FM/BBS pass last
night. As others have said, it was a real kick. I had Wisp running, but
with TX off, and was able to see part of N8MH's connect efforts.
Fortunately the deviation of the packet downlink was not so high that it was
unbearable. Still, at some point I hope they will, at least for a test
period, separate out the voice and packet modes, as well as drop the PL if
possible on the packet.

A great new project. Congratulations to CAMSAT!

AMSAT News Service Special Bulletin 355.01

December 21, 2009
To All RADIO AMATEURS
BID: $ANS-355.01

AMSAT-NA OSCAR Number Coordinator Bill Tynan, W3XO has informed Alan
Kung, BA1DU, Amateur Satellite Project Manager and Chief Executive
Officer of AMSAT-China that XW-1 is now designated as Hope OSCAR 68,
or HO-68.

Bill wrote, "The satellite was launched successfully 15 December from
the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center of China, on a CZ-4C rocket. Ama-
teur Radio Operators around the world have received beacon signals
from XW-1."

Bill continues, "Further, I have been informed that XW-1 has been coor-
dinated through IARU Amateur Satellite Frequency Coordination Panel. As
XW in Chinese means 'hope', it had been requested that this word be used
as the prefix for the new OSCAR number. Therefore, with the above infor-
mation and the authority vested in me by the AMSAT-NA President, I hereby
designate this latest amateur radio satellite as Hope Oscar 68 or HO-68."

Congratulations to AMSAT-China. Bill concludes, "On behalf of AMSAT-NA
and the world's amateur radio satellite community I congratulate those
responsible for building, testing and launching this new satellite. May
it have a long and successful life."

Hi,

I was unable to open the uplink with my Yaesu FT-847. The PL tone was
set 67.0 Hz but unable to open the uplink channel.

During the pass I tryed the following.

- Checked Subtone.SQF file twice SatPC32 (XW-1,67.0,$3F,1)
- Checked Doppler.SQF (XW-1,435675,145825,FM,FM,NOR,0,0,Repeater-BBS)
- Restarted SatPC32
- Switched of and on the Yaesu FT-847
- Did a manual setup via menu option 12 for the tone frequentie
- Used FMN on the uplink

Nothing worked :(

There where only three or four stations active during this pass
and that makes me wonder if I was the only one with tone problems?

I did receive some BBS Packets:

BJ1SA-12>BBSTAT>UI,C,F0:
Open BJ1SA-12:0

BJ1SA-12>BBSTAT>UI,C,F0:
Open BJ1SA-12:0

Maybe beter luck next time

Hello All,

PE0SAT earlier mentioned that he could not work over the XW1 FM repeater.
I noticed the same, I couldn't either via uplink 145.825Mhz (tone 67hz).
Was there something chanced?
Was the freq. and tone (written above) correct?

Jan,

I had a similar experience. I was able to get in, but not as well as
others. This morning, I put a calibrated service monitor on the rig. The
PL signal looked clean, and was at 700 Hz deviation, as specified in the
service manual. That is slightly higher than the nominal 15% of normal
deviation usually quoted. I don't have a frequency counter of sufficient
accuracy to check the PL tone frequency, but it was obviously close and
switched properly by the software. I get in to SO-50 and SO-67 with no more
trouble than others, as well as the local repeaters with PL access.

Hello,

I had the same problem here on the same pass. Checked everything that
could be checked but nothing from me on the downlink.
Signal was strong.
