Hi all in Europe,
The active passes are:

19-12-09 07:56:00 EU Central/East
19-12-09 11:05:00 EU West/Atlantic

20-12-09 07:36:00 EU Central/East
20-12-09 09:10:00 EU Central/West
20-12-09 10:44:00 EU West/Atlantic

Please note that it is just a plan. It may
be changed if the controllers have other
more urgent things to do.

Putting the preamplifier at the antenna and not at the equipment end
overcomes the "noise figure" and losses of the feedline. Putting the
preamplifier after the feedline adds the "noise figure" and losses of the
feedline to the signal.

Therefore, having the preamplifier at the antenna end is definitely better.
However, whether or not the added complexity of having the preamplifier at
the antenna end is worth the improvement in the signal to noise ratio of the
signal is another matter. For things like e.m.e. every little bit helps and
having the preamplifier at the antenna is worth it. For other applications
one has to weigh the benefits of the placement of the preamplifier with the
considerable added complexity.

Actually 50 feet of LMR400 adds 0.75 dB to the Noise Figure of your 144 MHz

Why deteriorate the Noise Figure of your receiving system adding the losses
of a coax cable between the antenna and preamplifier?

I agree. I have the 2 & 70cm eggbeaters with the reflector kits underneath
and mast mounted Landwehr's. If you use eggbeaters, preamps are a must.

Wayne,

Thanks for the tutorial! As a SatPC32 newbie, your tutorial made it
painless to add XW-1.

Thanks again,

Orbit #51 over Syracuse, NY FN13---max elevation 8.9 degrees.

No FM downlink at all but I did hear the beacon up the band right where it
was supposed to be. 13B2, 70cm mast mount SSB pre, FT 726R.

Nice big footprint. My first time trying to find this bird. Congrats and
good luck to all involved.

That may be how it should be but I can assure you the carrier was on
continuously during the time I reported in my original post
(1331-1341 UTC) and it did not respond to my input signal.
I believe others have reported the same.

About 12:25 today I went outside with my TH-F7E handie, and stuck in the
frequency. A bit of tuning around and I had noisy but clear CW on
435.780 - quite far down in the noise but a good easy copy. I didn't
write down exactly what was sent but the TTT TTT TTT groups were
instantly recognisable.

I succeeded in uplink to BBS digital store-forward transponder.
There are many confusions between FM transponder and Digital BBS.
Therefore the file upload to the BBS was not completed.
Because it influence by the living together of FM and Digital BBS
each other, this use feels like being difficult.

Is anyone using Nova for tracking celestials (e.g., Jupiter or Sun ) for
radio astronomy purposes? I have an LVB Tracker but not sure Nova is
compatible and SatPC32 doesn't track celestial bodies. Also not sure
LabJackU3 is completely supported by Nova yet.
Any solutions out there ?
