Since the downlink is DSB, try switching between USB and LSB. Some
have even heard the downlink using AM. For me, when I've worked or
tried to work this satellite, I have an easier time using LSB to hear the
downlink. I am not using any automation for my stations, as you know.
Since the downlink frequency goes lower, I have always had an easier
time tuning in that direction in LSB.
I don't work this one too much, since I have to go with a two-radio setup
(some sort of 2m FM rig on the uplink, and either an FT-817ND or AOR
AR8200Mk2 handheld wide-band all-mode receiver for the downlink) and
sometimes I don't have all the gear with me. Other times, I don't have
the time to get the two radios set up with my Yagi in time for those
passes. When I get my living situation stablized, and get a radio that
is better suited for all-mode satellite work, I'll try this one more often.
Good luck with AO-16. 73!

As per subject, Delfi-C3 heard in FM05pj tonight. Packets copied!
The keps on the mission control page seem to be right on--when the footprint
of the bird showed illumination, it came on as expected.

Dear All,
Below is the recording of this morning's pass of Cute-1.7+APDII and SEEDS
over West Malaysia. Listened out for Delfi-C3 but nothing heard on both
frequencies.
Time: 1115 Local, 0315 UTC
Elevation: 27 degrees
Tracking Object-J
http://www.9w2qc.net/amsatbb/cuteseeds01may1115.mp3
The first 6 minutes are Cute-1.7+APDII CW telemetry and the remaining of the
file is SEEDS telemetry. Looks like it is really time to put another UHF
yagi up the rotator for simultaneous RX of Cute-1.7+APDII and SEEDS. :-)
Good luck to the teams involved and hope that the telemetry is useful.

Bob,
Can you hear the AO-16 carrier on the downlink?. It is not strong but still
quite noticeable (at least in this part of the world).
If you zero beat to the carrier then you are in the right spot to then
select either Upper or Lower sideband and you should then resolve the SSB
OK.
Good luck

Hello all, trying to set my station up to hear the new sats. any pointers
giving off the list would be nice to have. Have a small 440 sat antenna and
with a mast mount preamp and tv rotator with a ft 857 and a pk 96. Would be
neat to copy some telem.
Located west Michigan USA.

I refresh my Orbitron KEPS Mak and i just hear DELFI C 3 very loud but there
is another problem who come out. The audio was very unstable
the tone frequencies where not stable and some distortion seems to appears
during the data transmissions making RASCALS completely unable
to decode even a single packet.
Theses tones distortions gradually increased up to a point the transmitter
shuts down. The tone pointer on RASCALS was moving wild
smashing both side limit of the scale and it was not what i got the first time
i decoded my first packets.
Why the tone frequencies are no more stable even with doppler correction
remain a mystery but surely the control team will come up with
some explanations as they seems to be aware of this behaviour.
End of the story and a night to speculate on the subject!

kEPS are OK at the second the TX start transmitting with less distortion.
After 30 seconds "near one minute" the TX shutt down again for a
brief moment and to resume back again transmitting with a bit more distortion.

Hi!
On Saturday, 3 May 2008, the Cochise Amateur Radio Association (CARA)
will host the annual Larry Warren Cochise Hamfest in Sierra Vista,
Arizona (grid DM41vm). The hamfest starts at 7am local time (1400
UTC). CARA has more information about the hamfest at:
http://www.k7rdg.org/2008hamfest.html
As part of the hamfest, there will be an AMSAT table with merchandise
and satellite demonstrations. Local hams Jeff K7WIN and Bill K7WJS,
assisted by Larry W7LB from Tucson and me (driving down from Phoenix),
will be there to answer questions related to amateur satellites and
also have on-air demonstrations using the AO-51 and SO-50 satellites
during the morning. Thanks to the CARA, our on-air demonstrations
will be done using the club's callsign K7RDG. If you hear us on the
Saturday morning AO-51 and SO-50 passes, please give us a call.
Between passes, we will be reachable on K7WIN's 70cm repeater, via
IRLP and EchoLink. You may reach us on IRLP using node 4754 and on
EchoLink at node 4249. If in the area, K7WIN's repeater is on
449.725 MHz, with a -5 MHz offset and 179.9 Hz PL.

Just wondering if anyone is using Ham Radio Deluxe with the linear
birds (e.g. VO-52).
While it seems to work fine with the FM sats, I think there may be an
issue adjusting the frequencies to find oneself in the passband. For
example, I can manuually tune the RX downlink while TX'ing and find
myself, but shortly after the offset gets reset to the calculated
frequency....
Thanks and 73,
Dave

Hi.
Here in London I can only manage to monitor evening passes. All of these
have Delfi-C3 emerging from eclipse shortly before, or during the pass. So
far
it's been there on every occassion.
I managed to get a little telemetry last night, but only enough to show the
computer has had 2216 attemps at booting up. With about 40ish orbits that
averages 50 tries per orbit
So, immediately exiting eclipse seems the best time to get good results.
When starting RASCAL you appear to need 3 consecutive packets on frequency
to sync the receive software and to decode the last packet as a line of data.
Thanks
David

At 9:40 utc c3 was heard transmitting tlm at 145.930MHz.Suddenly it
stopped transmitting tlm at 145.930MHz and started transmitting tlm at
145.870MHz. After a couple of minutes it changed back to 145.930MHz
transmitting tlm. Packets were decoded and uploaded to the c3 server.

Hi all,
another status update on Delfi-C3:
1. During the pass of 09:30 UTC over Europe, we have performed successful
database dumps again, some of you may have heard these since the frames
sound quite different compared to normal housekeeping / payload frames.
These frames are also captured by RASCAL, displayed in the terminal and
uploaded to our server
2. During this same pass, we have successfully switched the spacecraft to
its primary radio on 145.870MHz temporarily, after this switch, the
satellite came back on on the 145.930MHz downlink. Telemetry indicated that
the primary radio on 145.870MHz is healthy and working fine so that is good
news.
Note that the satellite will normally transmit on 145.930MHz for the time
being, unless we command her to go to 145.870MHz. This might occur more in
the coming days when the s/c is in range of our groundstation, so listeners
in Europe might want to check the 145.870MHz transmitter also when the
145.930MHz transmitter shuts down. We have noted that the 145.870MHz
transmitter is a little (1kHz) low in frequency so actually on 145.869MHz.
3. Yesterday (April 30) we were able to successfully command on our backup
command uplink so we have both command uplinks working nominally at this
moment.
4. We are currently investigating the rotational behaviour of the satellite,
your observations w.r.t. spin rate / signal strength are more than welcome,
combined with telemetry we should be able to fully assess how the s/c is
rotating. We suspect that this may actually give a clue to the TX dropouts
experienced.
5. We have successfully gathered raw data from the wireless sun sensor
payload
6. Note that we have locked the bootcounter value so it will always display
2273 from now on until we unlock it again
7. Although TLE's for object #32787 are listed on our webpage, we are not
entirely sure that this is in fact Delfi-C3. We probably won't have
confirmation until after a day or 3-4 when the satellites have separated a
bit more. For now, object #32787 should be fine for tracking though, but
your observations w.r.t. AOS / LOS times are welcome
8. Following the report from VE2DWE about the TX sounding distorted, we
would like to ask everyone to record a wav if possible when this phenomenom
is heard, you can send the wav files to missioncontrol(AT)delfic3.nl . Our
inbox has no problem with large file sizes.

I've learnt a lot over the last eighteen months writing DM780 and want a

Hi Luc,
thanks a lot for your observations! Next time you hear this, could you make
a recording? (Preferably wav) and email it to missioncontrol(AT)delfic3.nl ?
This would allow us to assess what's happening.
We just had an ok pass over our GS, another one coming up shortly.
