CONGRATULATIONS!

You officially now have the "sat bug" - which our Centers for Disease
Control have yet to find a vaccine.

ENJOY!

Thanks to all who responded to my query, especially my good friend Dave,
AA4KN and Rick, WA4NVM for providing a recording of the event. And a great
big thanks to John K8YSE for coming back to me for my first successful
satellite contact!

I loved using the manuel method! I even went so far as to derive the orbit
equations myself. But it was exciting when the tracking software for the
Timex Z-81. Still have have one in the shack.

Hi Smith, N4VIL

Early in 1972 I was receiving by regular post the 2 Line Orbital Data from
Goddard to be used for the meteorological satellites ESSA-8, NIMBUS and
TIROS

For traching I used as well the azimuthal map of the earth with a foot print
transparent overly and a revolving satellite orbital path.

Yes...no computers at all in the Ham shack at that time but manual tracking
using a map a pencil and a clock was a beginning very useful and exciting.

Thanks to many helpful suggestions and support from the AMSat-BB list I was
able to get the Uni_Trac 2000 working with Nova DDE and with Yaesu g-5500
and FT-847. Thank-you.

I have one problem remaining.....

My uni_trac window for some reason is always lagging behind the tracking
that Nova is doing. I thought Nova would control the tracking, but it
appears it simply passes the satellite object name to Uni_trac and Uni_Trac
does its own calculations on the KEPs.

I made certain they are using the same nasa KEPs file for both Nova and
Uni_Trac. They have the same GPS coordinates entered and I have the same
height above sea level in them both (although on in feet and on in meters).

Does anyone have any thoughts? It seems that Uni_Trac is lagging or it is
calculating the KEP differently.

If there is a better listserv I should post this too, please advise.

Thanks again to all! 73s
Mike
