I was not at home for this pass but it was recorded
automatically for me. Just another perspective from
my location where the maximum elevation for this pass
was only 2 degrees!

Hi all,
Listening to some of the recordings over North America/Europe is quite
instructive and seems to conform to a consistent pattern.
Station A transmits and holds in the transponder without problems. Station
B begins transmitting but drops out two to three seconds later when the
transponder tail ends. On rare occasions two strong stations seem to avoid
the problem and I suspect this may be because their carriers overlap and
SO-67 sees a continuous carrier and does not trigger the transponder tail.
This may be a technique to avoid the dropouts. Station A holds the carrier
on for a second after a call and station B may be able to overlap with A's
carrier and avoid the dropout. Perhaps worth a try.

Jerry,
I don't have an FT-60, I have an FT-50 and use what the owners manual
calls VFO Duplex Mode.
This allows one VFO to be on the xmit frequency and the other VFO to
be on the receive frequency.
I looked at the online owners manual for your FT-60 and did not see
the VFO Duplex option mentioned,
so you might want to set up memories for SO-67.
Here is a link to K6LCS's page showing how he set memories for AO-51
on an FT-60:
http://homepage.mac.com/clintbradford/.Public/satbr3.pdf
Note that the freqs/tone shown for AO-51 are not correct for SO-67.
You will have to plug in the correct frequencies yourself (don't
forget the tone).
Note that there are a number of freqs plugged into the memory
locations to allow for Doppler.
All that being said, I have not actually attempted operation through
SO-67 (just listened). I just thought the information here might help
get you started.

Joel,
A satellite on the map can be different colors, depending on the background,
to make it visible. For instance, against a white background such as the
polar regions, it is red. Perhaps elsewhere, though I did not look. Is
that what you are seeing?

For the life of me, I can neither remember nor find why a satellite
shows up in red on the display in SatPC32. Can someone point me or kick
me in the head?
Thanks,

Alan,
That was it. It only occurred over the polar regions. I knew it was
something simple. Thanks.

I'm not sure about SatPC32 but with orbitron if I remember correctly it may
mean that the satellite is going into eclipse?

Hello All,
Thanks for the updates Erich! SatPC32 is a great program and I'm very
happy with it.
I'm having a bit of a problem with the new version, I can't run it from
my "usual" user account. I installed it with the Administrator logon as
the installation told me I needed to do that. I'm running Vista 64 bit SP2.
When I start the program from any account that is not Adminstrator, I
get an error
"Exception EInOutError in Modul SatPC32.exe bei 011B446.
Datei nich gefunden."
I tried installing it from several accounts, and even uninstalling 12.8
and installing 12.8a. No luck.
If it makes any difference, I do not install it to the C:\ drive.
Could anyone help me out here, please?
Thanks!

Hi Alan,
Dont forget that SO-67 is narrow FM, if your rig cant do NFM you will
need to wind the mike gain down to avoid over deviating. I found that if
your over deviating you will experience drop-outs.

Tim

Hi,
I would like to know how to change to CW-N (CW narrow) and FM-N (FM narrow)
in the doppler.sqf file when using my Yaesu FT-736R !?!?!
I can't change directly from the rig when controlling the radio from
SatPC32... this is normal... but I don't know wich keyword to enter in the
doppler.sqf file.
Thank for your help.

He must be busy, I heard him QSOing with someone on 20 meters this
afternoon.

I recently made contact with W6FOG on Grid CM95 on VO-52. It was a low pass
for me, 11 degrees, so we didn't QSO much. He said he would try on the next
AO-51 pass.

Maybe this should be a lesson for all those monster stations that like to
stomp all over everyone- satellite and HF included......

Subject: [amsat-bb] SO-67 on Flea Power!!!!
My profound thanks to John. K8YSE, for posting the recordings he's made of
SO-67 passes over North America. His most recent recording, which he began
at 15:00:38 UTC, provides proof that - even amid the chaos of a pass like
that one - very low power levels can work our amateur satellites. Anyone who
listens to the recording will hear the weak-signal call of N3TL at 8:51 into
the recording. I'm faint, but I'm in there ... on 50mW (.05 watt) from my
Yaesu VX-7R HT and Elk dual-band log periodic antenna.
KI0G surprised the heck out of me when I heard him call me several seconds
later. When he did, I thought, "He must be calling me blind. There's no way
I made it through on 50 milliwatts." No matter - I spent the rest of the
pass transmitting QSLs for our contact, but K8YSE's recording shows that I
didn't make it back into the satellite before he (K8YSE) left the footprint.
If someone farther south has a recording that?includes me QSLing Bob, KI0G,
by all means please email me a copy.
My signal made it into SO-67 beginning at 15:09:29 UTC and ending at
15:09:30 UTC. According to Orbitron, SO-67 was pretty much right at the
intersection of 30 degrees north x 90 degrees west, or right on top of the
4-grid boundary of EM40, EM50, EL49, EL59. She was at a range of 882.050
kilometers (548.0805 miles) to my handheld station in EM84 at 15:09:30
UTC.?Based on?those distances, my power level translates to 17,641
kilometers (10,961.61 miles) per watt. Given how busy SO-67 has been over
North America the past two weekends, I'll take that!
During that pass, I tried to time my transmissions based on Mr. Cresswell's
posts to the BB on 14 November about the two passes he worked and observed
that day over New Zealand. Specifically, I listened for people to
immediately return calls, then have their signal drop out when the
satellite's tail dropped out. When that happened, I transmitted - and on at
least one occasion that K8YSE captured in his recording, flea power found
its way to our newest amateur satellite.
Thank you, everyone at AMSAT-SA, for building, launching and orbiting SO-67.
She is a wonderful addition to the fleet, and one I'm proud to have worked
on .05-watt.
73 to all,
Tim - N3TL
