As we can read on the AMSAT-NA web site there is an operation group who is
supposed "to create the monthly schedule for the satellite. AO-
51" But who is on this command team? Why it take's on paper 5 folks to
create a schedule? Is theses same folks cannot also be able to
command the satellite? It will reduced the work load for Drew as he seems to
be the only one to cope with the all work load and if he's not
available the world stops until he can resume his work on the satellite.
Here is what it is written on AMSAT-NA web page
"The AO-51 Operations Group is made up of Amsat Members who are also AO-51
users. The Operations Group works with the Command Team to
create the monthly schedule for the satellite. AO-51 Operations Group is
KO4MA, N8MH, OZ1MY, VK5HI, WA4SXM, N8BBQ, KD8CAO."
PS. A team is normally made with 2 and more:)

Latest news on Neal W6FOG sailing adventure. According to Sawson, KG6NUB,
report to me at the 2134z AO-27 pass is that Neal W6FOG made it as far as
Santa Cruz, CA and had to be towed in by Coast Guard due to Hypothermia.
Sounds like he got wet somehow. That is the only news, and can only be
counted a rumor at this time by me. Havent heard him on, so must be
something to it. Not a good start for his round the world sailing trip.
Hopefully we'll hear from him so we can verify this report.

I recently acquired a couple of used Cushcraft antennas and have been
looking around for documentation but not having any luck. I have the
following two antennas:
435-30CP with polarity switch
2M-16CP with polarity switch
I'm not 100% sure on the model names but they are the 70cm 30 element and 2M
16 element antennas. If anyone has documentation on these that you can
forward in e-mail or fax (contact me of list for fax number), I'd appreciate
it. There are some wires I'm not really sure as to their function on the
polarity switch.

Luc,
I am not too sure what you are attempting to imply in your post.
First up there are 8 members of the operations group.
Their task is to analyse the numerous requests that are submitted to
ao-51modes at amsat.org and prepare a schedule in conjunction with the
command stations. On occasions it becomes nigh on impossible to facilitate
all the requests, so some are held over to the following month.
As you are aware that schedule is posted to the Amsat-NA site at
http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/echo/CTNews.php
OR
If there is a delay in posting to the Amsat-NA site, a post is made to the
amsat-bb, which Drew did on this occasion.
In respect to command stations there are currently two, plus and one in
training.
Operating a command station is a dedicated and responsible task.
It also requires a commitment to be able to drop tasks at hand and attend
to daily commanding tasks and analysis, not to mention the training to
become a command station.
Your assertion that if Drew is not available, then the World stops is
totally incorrect.
In Drew's post that you have misunderstood, is that he was responsible for
executing the new mode changes. He stated that he encountered an equipment
problem and the remainder of the tasks would be executed over subsequent
passes. This was a totally responsible action on his behalf. The tasks that
were not fulfilled did not place AO-51 in jeopardy.
What you overlooked is that the Operations Group and the Command Stations
are all dedicated volunteers, and most work for a living. However we do
work as a team, day in, day out.
Best regards,
Colin VK5HI
Member AO-51 Operations Group.

Hi David, K6CDW
It seems to me that the above antennas are from KLM and not from Cushcraft
By the way I have the manuals for the KLM 435 40CX and KLM 2M 14C that
are very similar to your models.
If I can be of any help to connect the polarity switches please let me know

InstantTrack does. See
http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/tools/ftpsoft.php#pc-rot for some of the
drivers currently available that work with InstantTrack.
The software interface that InstantTrack uses to talk to rotor controllers
is documented here, in case you want to write your own:
http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ftp/software/PC/InstantTrack/intspec.txt
This interface is based on the way the KCT talks to application programs,
but it isn't tied to the KCT specifically. QuikTrak also uses the KCT
interface, but it uses it in a different way. Specifically, it preloads
tables of positions and then relies on the KCT to execute that program
without further help from the application program. None of the
InstantTrack-compatible drivers I'm aware of (except the KCT itself)
implements that mode, so as far as I know there's no support for QuikTrak
other than the KCT.

I have used the IC-92AD for AO-51. It worked fine.
I programmed 5 memories into the "A BAND" (downlink), of course they are all
set to FM (not DV).
435.310
435.305
435.300
435.295
435.290
I programmed one memory into the "B BAND" (uplink), set to FM (not DV).
145.920
You can label each memory accordingly to reduce confusion.
To compensate for Doppler you change A Band memories for best receive. When
you want to transmit you need to momentarily press "MAIN DUAL" to ensure
that the B BAND is active where 145.920 is selected.
Set the A Band squelch open and the B band squelch to max or above the noise
threshold.
It worked very well on AO-51 and I am sure it will work just as well on the
other FM birds. On SO-50 I would program two memories for the uplink (with
both PL tones). One with 67.0 Hz and another with 74.4 Hz.
73,
Jeff - K7WIN
