Probably because David is not a member of the approved NATO alphabet.

I think 145.880 is the uplink frequency. Downlink should be 435.350

David the one I got the previous owner just put RVT all over it, except the
RCA jack. I need to redo it, but it's raining, hi. The 435 yagi came with an
aluminum box enclosure....wonder why they didnt do the vhf yagi the same ??
Course we'll never know as they are out of business.

Anyone out there with KLM antennas with the polarity switch care to comment
on whether you have put a housing on the switch to protect it from the
elements? It looks like the relay has silicon around the base but it just
grates me the wrong way to have a circuit board with a power connection and
components exposed to the elements.
Maybe it has not been an issue but I'd care to hear of anyone experiences.
If anyone has built up a housing and have pictures or directions, please
pass them along

I do that on FM repeaters and on the birds when I'm working with people who
recognize my call sign or are likely to. I'll switch to phonetics if there
is someone new to me or when I'm calling CQ

Samudra,
I think that typically on FM repeaters, you should be able to understand the
letters being spoken as easily as phonetics since there is usually so little
noise on a local FM repeater as compared to a satellite signal where you are
dealing with fading and QRM much of the time. BTW, thanks again for all your
help during the Symposium.

Not? Yet
Perigee Height is now below 200km but Cute 1.7 Object? #28941 is still in
orbit
Re-Entry predictions for around mid day October 13th from?EI7IG and W7LRD
therefore drop out of the competition.
Is she staying aloft long than expected because of a high mass to surface
area?

"The new AMSAT CubeSat's initial capability is planned to add to the popular
low-earth orbit FM transponder fleet
allowing hams to continue to use their existing handheld and portable
antenna systems. This also continues the accessible
entry path for new satellite operators to get started. The existing FM
satellites are starting to show their age."
It was widely admitted that AO-51 was a mistake years ago as a transponder
type satellite should have been chosen instead of a single
channel satellite.
IMHO There ia already enough capabilities with the existing fleet SO-50
AO-51 AO-27 ISS cross band repeater for an entry class satellite
plus many cubes in the making as arisat-1. What we lack is a HEO or some
AO-07 like satellite with transponder who will make
transcontinental QSO'S possible. Theses one channel satellite are a waste of
money compare to a transponder type as many simultaneous QSO'S
can be achieved at the same time.
But theses issues where widely discussed in the past and i'm guessing the
AMSAT symposium attendance widely clapped at this announcement!!!
What AMSAT-NA will be in the next years " HANDHELD CLUB" as written " to
continue to use their existing handheld and portable antenna
systems."
Wrong direction again 180 degrees of the logical course again!
P.S. It is obvious this variation on the same subject proposal will have
plenty of time to evolved or to be put in real service only to be
replaced by other new proposals. it is the dog running after his tails
syndrome who prevail again. Bottom line is another deceptive
unrealistic proposal IMHO.
Feel free to agree or disagree but the shrinking AMSAT-NA membership is
probably what's is triggering theses proposals a king of safety
buoy for the BOD to avoid drowning the whole crew and her ship.

Hi David, K6CDW
I have put a waterproof plastic housing on the switch both for the KLM
2M-14C and KLM 2M-22C
In a separate email I have sent to you a zipped file with several pictures
depicting the above modification.

as I recall there were 50 some odd pounds of ballast launched with the
bird...to bad it wasnt an amateur repeater.

When I picked up these KLM's over in Lompoc, the fellow works at Vandenburg,
and he told me that alot of the ballast is nothing but concrete !! Can you
imagine all that concrete chunks out there and they know where the majority
are....amazing.

Yeap...it is generally either concrete or lead...and the concrete is
favored..something in my memory says however the ones on TDRSS were lead.
somewhere I probably have a picture of the ballast being attached to the
"bird". Indeed I got a letter published in both AV Leak and Navy Times (as
I recall) about the ballast...and "other" payloads. I also recall the IUS
upper stage carried ballast as well....to bad it wasnt an Amateur radio
transponder...lots of power on TDRSS 1.
