I will admit publically I toasted my 817 and took 6 months and $500 to
fix. I spent the money in order to prove I could fix it. There are
more voltages then the 12 and 5 volt. There is 9V TX, 9V RX and
regulators on the both the main board and the PA board (but not the
module). To save the list my painful story I will contact you directly
with my hints. Others my have simular help. I need to get to a real
computer other then this moble phone....

Subj: [amsat-bb] FT817 service manual, repair or parts
Hello all
Managed to kill my 817 some time ago with a power spike from a dodgy
power supply. Found some burnt components and tracks on the main board
next to the ribbon cable leading to the front panel and LCD. This
prevented the 12V from reaching the front panel. Did a small mod to get
the 12V around this burnt track. Still no switch on from the 817. Then
found another burnt component, the 5V regulator next to the power switch
on the front panel PCB. Temporary replaced the 5v surface mount with a
7805 regulator, but still no joy. Beginning to think that a lot more
must have been damaged by the power spike.
Anyone out there got more of a service manual to try and track the
fault? Otherwise anyone got an 817 that has damage elsewhere from which
I could try and swop subparts / PCB to get mine working again?
Regards
Pieter

Hi all.
Delfi C3 is being launched at 03.53 UTC on Monday.
I've loaded the keps from the web site, and it looks like the first stations
to hear the satellite will be on the west coast of the USA at around 05.01
when the satellite exits eclipse heading north. Can anyone confirm this
sounds
about right?
It doesn't look like the satellite will have a good pass over the University
ground station until around 4.5 hours after launch. All the more reason to
collect some valuable telemetry in the first few hours.
Exciting times......
David

Actually we removed our 2m *VHF* beacon.
We still have a UHF downlink at 437.478 MHz which is 4 kbps GFSK and
only active over our Toronto Ground Station.
Our S-Band downlink is used for the science payloads and we have
coordinated a frequency in the Space Research Service Band around 2.2 GHz.
Due to power limitations only one downlink will be active during a
pass.
Updates on the launch will be posted on our website at
http://www.utias-sfl.net/NLS-4/

Hi David,
you are totally right.
Indeed, Delfi-C3 will first exit eclipse over the US at 0501 UTC and this is
the chance to hear the spacecraft boot up and hear its very very first
signals. (The satellite has no battery so is not active in eclipse) So we
would like to ask hams especially around the Western US and Alaska to listen
to the spacecraft during that phase.
Telemetry downlink is on continuously, approx 1 frame every second. A sample
recording of the 1200bd BPSK AX.25 downlink can be heard at
http://www.delfic3.nl/photoblog/wp-
content/uploads/2008/02/delfic3_sciencemode_tm.wav
If all goes as planned, the spacecraft should come up on the primary
downlink frequency of 145.870MHz broadcasting AX.25 telemetry, but please
also check the backup downlink at 145.930MHz (also AX.25, similar signal as
the primary freq) in case nothing is heard on the primary frequency. The
downlink is continuous, periods of no data are filled with flags, similar to
AO-16.
Keep in mind to tune for Doppler, and when using RASCAL, tune 1600Hz lower
in frequency when using USB mode in order to center the signal at 1600Hz.
(This also holds for those who set the freqs in a SATPC32 file) In any case,
tuning around slowly would probably be the best strategy, due to TLE
uncertainty and spacecraft transmitter frequency drift caused by temperature
variations.
The spacecraft will most likely be tumbling, especially during this phase,
so note that polarization fades might occur. It is advantageous to switch
polarization if you have the ability to do so.
If you hear Delfi-C3, please send reception reports to
missioncontrol(AT)delfic3.nl and state the following items:
-your name / callsign
-your location (Maidenhead gridsquare or latitude / longitude)
-time of AOS & LOS (UTC)
-frequency
-signal strength
-equipment (antenna, receiver)
-please record a wav file if possible
-please decode telemetry if possible with the RASCAL software. If you use a
PSK TNC instead, please append a KISS (.kss) file
more info on spacecraft modes / freqs and latest TLE's can be found on our
Mission Operations Page at:
http://www.delfic3.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=93&Itemid=122
RASCAL can be downloaded at:
http://www.delfic3.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=94&Itemid=123
Also, if you have listened for the spacecraft but not heard signals, please
do report "nothing heard", since this still is valuable information to the
team.
thanks on behalf of the team, everything is good to go now!

Thanks Jeff. Thanks also to all those who e-mailed similar kind words.
BTW since sending the report, Peter ZL3TC has e-mailed to say that he
heard UO-11 on 23 April 2008, for a single pass. Interestingly, it was
just over 40 days since we last heard it, ie. two complete watchdog
cycles.

I think Pedro might be referring to adding keps to an existing keps
file by manually pasting from the clipboard. Downloading and updating
a keps file is well described in the SatPC32 manual, but I always have
to dig around to find the actual files to manipulate with a text
editor.
Here's what I do:
1. Under the 'Satellites' menu, select and recently update a text file.
2. Go to the SatPC32/Kepler directory to find the text file by the
same name as the one you selected in step 1.
3. Open that file with a text editor such as notepad and carefully
append the new Keps. Save this file.
4. Restart SatPC32.
For new satellites, you might want to include a new line in
SatPC32/DOPPLER.SQF to make use of doppler tuning.

Hello all,
There are reports at http://oscar.dcarr.org/ that AO-16 has gone silent.
Should this be the case, there is no cause for alarm. Over the last month AO-
16 has gone from full illumination (0 minutes of eclipse) to over 250 minutes
of eclipse. Since the bird has no fancy housekeeping code running, a
reasonable explanation is that the battery voltage dropped low enough to put
the bird into a protected (and silent) mode.
Over the next few days I'll work at collecting telemetry and restoring the
voice mode operations of AO-16. Please refrain from transmitting to the
satellite until further notice.
On behalf of the AO-16 Command Team,
Mark L. Hammond [N8MH]

Final Monthly OSCAR-11 Report
AMSAT News Service Bulletin 118.05
>From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.
April 27, 2008
To All RADIO AMATEURS
BID: $ANS-118.05
Clive, G3CWV sent the 144th monthly report for OSCAR-11. Clive says,
"Unless there is an unexpected change of status (such as occured with
OSCAR-7), I'm expecting this to be my last report."
This report covers the period from 17 March to 21 April 2008. During
this period the satellite has not been heard and no reports of
reception have been received.
Transmissions were expected to resume on 24 March, after the beacon
switched-off on 14 March. However, permanent eclipses started a few
days beforehand, which probably caused the transmission period to be
terminated prematurely. It is now unlikely that the satellite will
support any sustained period of operation, and will only transmit
for a short time, possibly less than a single orbit, every 21 days.
In the years ahead, it is possible that you may hear OSCAR-11, by
accident, when tuning around the frequency. If you are able to record
the satellite on audio tape or as a WAV file (not MP3), please do so,
as it is unlikely that it will be heard on the next pass!
Please send reception reports to xxxxx(AT)amsat.org (replace xxxxx by
g3cwv) or post to amsat-bb. If you have a file, please let Clive
know what you have, before sending it!
If you need to hear what the satellite sounds like, please visit
his website at http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/clivew/ The satellite
transmits on 145.826 MHz.
Clive concludes, "I am indebted to all those who sent reception reports
during the last 12 years. Initially there was much interest in hearing
the mode-S beacon, which was very weak. Recently, interest has changed
to hearing when the two metre beacon switched on/off. Special thanks
must go to Jeff KB2M who recorded telemetry during my holidays, and
Peter ZL3TC, who has monitored the beacon daily, during recent months.
Many thanks to everyone."
OSCAR-11 was the second satellite from the University of Surrey,
http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/SSC. It was designed, built and launched,
within a time scale of six months, by a team headed by Martin Sweeting
G3YJO. Amateur radio groups working at various locations in the world,
Also contributed to the project. It used commercially available 'off
the shelf' components (COTS). Following the success of these satellites,
in 1985 Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (http://www.sstl.co.uk) was
formed, as a commercial venture. This grew into a major company which
has produced over 27 small satellite projects for a global market.

I can confirm that. Based on data collected at OZ7SAT it appears to have
happened somewhere between 21:17 UTC on April 25 - which was the last
good pass we heard - and 07:30 UTC on April 26, where it definitely was
in some non-BBS mode - it doesn't even look like MBL data. We didn't get
any data on the pass with AOS at 05:51 UTC.
