RS-10/11 was my first satellite as well, with a Drake R-4B for the downlink,
and the Drake T-4XB and TC-2 transmit converter for the uplink. A homebrew
2-meter turnstile and a 10 meter dipole in the attic, and I had a blast!!

Out of those 5, I think Sumbandila must be this one:

The others are all ~820km orbits, and I'm pretty sure Sumbandila was
going to the 520s, like the above object.

Thanks to the several of you that helped make my demonstration tonight a
success. Signals were great on the QRP repeater, and the JARS club enjoyed
hearing all of you (from Vermont, to Georgia to Tennesse to Kansas!).

I had a "scribe" and I think her writing says:

I think that's the list..If you need a card, let me know.

So many satellite operators started on RS-10/11, myself included. It was
just so workable.

Sunspots were on their way out (it was the end of the previous cycle), and
my Yaesu 767GX transceiver had a 2m module pushing a whole 10 watts into a
homemade copper pipe J-pole for an uplink. A Radio Shack DX-440 shortwave
receiver, connected to a wire strung out to a tree in the back yard, made
for a makeshift downlink. I worked stations across the entire continent
with this humble station. My first contact (from Northern California) was
to Arizona; the second was to New York. How could you not love a satellite
like that?

When I was at MGU (Moscow state university) in May this year I heard that
because of the controversy over the use in the Amateur band of the multiplex
system Doka on Yubileiny, they had decided not to use an amateur band on
this bird. Doka is a system used by Russian universities, originating from
engineers in Kaluga. Instead they would use the scientific/educational band
at 1.7 GHz, near the HRPT band, and installed a small dish on the roof of
the high-energy physics building for that purpose (I have stood next to it).
The location cannot see low elevations because of nearby high buildings.
Therefore I don't think Tatiana 2 has a 435 MHz beacon but i am checking
with friends in Moscow.

D-Star frequencies in the Netherlands.

Abraham van den Berg, PB0AOK - VERON's VHF manager, clarified the
D-Star issue in the Netherlands. VERON is the Dutch IARU society.

It is untrue that the Dutch administration is thinking about
D-Star repeaters operating in the 437-438 MHz band.

Presently, the amateur service in the Netherlands and neighbouring
countries suffers from harmful interference, caused by what can be
seen as a regrettable implementation of the Radiolocation service in
the 438-440 MHz band.

For that reason, usage of D-Star repeaters with output frequencies in
the upper 2 MHz part of the Region 1 70cm band, is hampered.

To solve this problem, recently the Dutch D-Star community came up
with a proposal to plan the output frequencies of D-Star repeaters
just below 438MHz and has asked VERON to support this proposal.

VERON has decided not to do so, due to incompatibility between the
amateur service and amateur-satellite service. Moreover, the proposal
deviates significantly from the IARU-R1 band plan.

In the meantime VERON has made an alternative proposition to amend
the Dutch national frequency plan in such a way, that it fully
complies with article 5 RR, the European Common Allocation table, as
well as the IARU-R1 band plan.

Thank you Bram, for this clarification.

Just copied a cw telemetry signal centred on 435.365MHz here in UK.

AOS around 09.12utc as a continuous carrier.

At approx 09.14utc cw telemetry started until LOS at 09.20utc.

Telemetry appears to consist of alpha / numeric blocks of 7 characters.

No keps here so no idea if it's what we're all looking for or not.

Hi all,

today a Multi Carrier rocket was launched from Baikonur carrying a few
satellites, including Tatiana 2(Universitetsky 2) and Sumbandila into orbit.

Found Universitetsky 2 (Tatiana 2) transmitting Data (and occassinally CW
also) on ~435,365 MHz. this evening at around 19:20 UTC.
Signal was quite strong but with some heavy fading now and then, probably
caused by the satellites rotation.

Centre frequency 435.365MHz

Initial signal carrier only with short breaks then at 10.50utc cw blocks of

Hi David,

sounds good. Could you record or decode the signal?
In most cases the call sign will be sent after data transmission (FM).

Hi Ed, KL7UW

As far I know the 2304.1 MHz transmitter on board of OSCAR-7 was only
a beacon and not a transponder.

Hopefully we will have someone putting out global APRS bulletins about the
launch. So even if you are mobile or standing outside with only your APRS
HT, you can get Launch Updates via Pete's CQSRVR.

To Logon to CQSRVR for this event:

1) Send an APRS message to CQSRVR
2) Message must begin with CQ LAUNCH CQ LAUNCH text_here

This will log you in and send your logon message to everyone else that is
logged on. For the next 24 hours, you will receive any similar messages
from evryone else. Including those who have up-to-date launch info.

3) Those sending launch info, can only send once every 30 minutes, so they
cannot use if for fine-grain details in the last minutes, but others with
new info can.

A great capability. Use it. I'll be out at an outdoors barbQ with an
astronomy club and so this is the only way I will get the Launch INfo.

Bob, WB4APR

I'll go ahead and logon to CQSRVR now so I can see everyone else that logs
on. (You only see others AFTER you logon of course)...
