I was on VO 52 on the last pass. Excellent downlink signal. This is
another satellite that is under utilized. I heard my downlink great.
To bad I was the only one on.

Hello All,
I called today and made a hotel reservation for the Symposium.
Here's a friendly tip/reminder:
Let the operator know that you're with the Radio Amateur Satellite
Corporation--she didn't have AMSAT listed anywhere :)
A link to the hotel website with 800 phone number is here:

I, too, agree VO-52 is underutilized, Dale. I'm usually in there calling CQ
and scanning the downlink.
Happy to have just worked you on AO-27 a minute before my LOS.

Hi!
Ron W6ZQ phoned me a little while ago, and mentioned he would
be on a couple of AO-51 passes that cover the western US over
the next couple of days.
Later today, Ron plans to be on the AO-51 pass at approximately
0230 UTC from grid BL02 on Kauai. He only has 4 degrees maximum
elevation, so he will only have a few minutes during this pass
to work with. On Friday evening (early Saturday UTC), he will
move south and be in BL01 around 0246 UTC. The Friday evening
pass is better for him than tonight's pass, but may not be as
good for those of us on the US mainland.
Good luck and 73!

Hi All,
VO-52 is widely used in Europe with a lot of CW and SSB stations in any
orbit.
VO-52 seems to be here the preferred satellite along with FO-29 when she was
alive.
OSCAR-7 is also widely used in mode-A and mode-B

Hello fellow V052 fans! Dale I think you must go to bed early as I am on at
least one pass most nights (ok, usually late) that lights us both up and n'er
a peep from the north! LOL Geez this sat lights up Siberia, northern Canada,
central America, at times most all of the US, and the lack of operators is
astounding.
Anyway, yes, by all means- anyone who has not at least listened to the
strength of the VO52 downlink should do so. It is very strong and
consistently good to the horizon. And, I guess going to the point of this
thread- largely unused. But with such a wide passband, there is loads of room
for many stations so no "2 meter repeater" or DX pileup characteristics.
Just my 2 cents

Voicing an opinion is really " cruising for reactions" I think not or theses
opinions are probably exposing something who should not be

I don't remember having read anything about criticisms on the work done but on
what some are thinking the next moves and orientation should
be. I think it is more a second guessing problem than anything else.

If "HEOs seem to be almost out of reach for us now" what we should do next? no
more false illusions about geo sat's and so on just get back
on earth and focused on how to help P3E and our German friend.

Is this will carry any new ideas even if the names are changing? I think not
as the closed AMSAT-NA BOD circle is still hovering above.

Some are trying but they don't succeed AMSAT-NA is not like your local ham
club where you can see your partners each week end. It was a
time where this "club" spirit was there and it give's AO-40 and Echo.
Aside of a HEO sat what's remain next? Cubes? and Arisat a 6 scrabble point
word! and ISS? yes we all know there is a cross band repeater
up there resting on the wall !!
Is it possible to let the paying members operating the sat's without always
feeling bad because they are not member of the president club
or as they don' t donate much or just they are unable or not interested to be
a volunteer?
When you are watching a movie even if all the attendance want's to help all at
the same time the guy who play with the film reel there will
not be enough room to let all of them go in.
If the pressure is too high it is probably an indication of a communication
problem?, Not listening or just standing by our ideas will just
increased the complaining factor.
P.S. Success and achievement are the criticisms antidote and a perverse man
stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends

I just looked, seems like you needed to travel on Wednesday to make that work.
PVD to BWI was the cheapest I could find in the regional airports here in MA.
I'm flying in Friday morning, hoping to spend the day at the Electronics and

Hi Bob!

Yes, you did! Nice to hear you cross over from L/U to V/U to pick
up that contact.
I heard Ron work you and me, along with 7 others on that pass.
I heard one other station that called but Ron didn't pick up, but
that station only made one call in the pass. I'm looking forward
to Friday evening, which will be a better pass out on Kauai
compared to tonight's pass. Not so good for me (4 degrees
max. elevation on that western pass from here in Phoenix), but
I'll try it.

Hi!
After watching the weather reports for the past few days, it
appears that Hurricane Jimena - or its remnants - will make
a western turn out to the Pacific instead of continuing on its
northern march toward Arizona. With this in mind, and the
fact that the upcoming weekend is a holiday weekend here in the
US, I'm going to make a road trip to grid DM31 in southern
Arizona for Saturday (5 September) afternoon and evening. This
is the only grid that covers Arizona that I have yet to operate
from via satellite.
If I have to go to the office in the morning, I should still be
on the AO-51 passes in the late afternoon and early evening passes
to the east and west. If I don't have to work, I'll be on for
AO-27 passes earlier in the afternoon. If I can leave Phoenix
early enough, there are SO-50 passes in the late morning and around
midday I could work from there. As I do with my other road trips
and hamfest demonstrations from various parts of Arizona, I can get
on VO-52 if I am in a good stopping place during those late-morning
passes. I will not stick around for the VO-52 passes in the
evening, as that area is not a friendly place to be after dark.
John K8YSE was out here last fall, putting this grid into the logs
of many satellite operators (including my log - thanks!). For those
who missed him then, here's another chance to get this rare grid
logged. Most of the grid stretches into northern Mexico, with the
Arizona portion covering parts of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
(where I will operate from, a few miles/km north of the USA/Mexico
border) and a wildlife refuge. This does not leave many choices for
stopping and operate from down there. I'll stay on the Arizona side
of the border fence, and hope to work as many as I can for those
passes.
As with many of my trips, anyone working WD9EWK from DM31 who is
interested in a QSL card only needs to e-mail me with the details
of the QSO(s) made with me. If you're in the log, I will send you
a card - even if you are in Canada, Mexico, or somewhere else that
falls in any of those footprints.

Hi Folks,
I will be booking my transatlantic flight over the next couple of days, and
have a
few questions. I wonder if anyone could help me?
1. Whats the best (easiest/cheapest) way to get from Washington Dulles airport
to
Baltimore?
2. Is there an airline that flies direct from Baltimore to Portland MA (I will
be
visiting firnds after the Symposium)
3. How far/whats the best way to get from the hotel to the Crypto museum?
My email to the hotel bounced, and their web page about local transportation
isnt
very helpful - not that I'm complaining - oh, maybe I can, the hotel isnt a
volunteer, I guess ;-)

P3E is a HEO with the same engine as P3D and no benefactor funding a launch.
It seems more reasonable to focus on projects that we can pay to launch or
where someone has already donated the launch.

Hi Folks,
This is just to let you know well in advance the dates of the 2010 AMSAT-UK
Colloquium.
It will be held over the weekend 30 Jul - 1 Aug 2010. The location will be
the
same as in 2009, ie the Holiday Inn, Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom. (quite
close
to the University of Surrey)
In 2009 there were a significant number of delegates arriving early on
Friday, so
we are planning to have some form of activity then (even if just social!),
also
probably in the early evening a 'beginners session'. Details to follow.
Meanwhile, please put the dates in your diaries!

Hi John, KD6OZH
P3E is the only HEO with the possibility to be launched because her will
carry on several experiments related to the Mars probe P5A under
development in AMSAT-DL
P3E is already made and it is standing in the labs of the University of
Marburg Germany and is waiting for a launch opportunity while P5E is still
under development.
> It seems more reasonable to focus on projects that we can pay to launch
All joined AMSAT togheter in the world has not the financial capability to
pay for a HEO launch and this matter has been already discussed several
time on this BB
> or where someone has already donated the launch.
Nobody has donated a launch for free or about for free on HEO except ESA for
OSCAR-10 OSCAR-13 and AO40 upon political strategy conducted mostly by
AMSAT-DL and this is why we must pull for P3E.......I agree completely with
Luc, VE2DWE
Actually the rest of HEO's are only on brains, on desk and on papers.
