You may do it on the tower, but here in Missouri, we usually mount our
Elk over the fireplace. :)

Simon,

I will be thrilled if you are able to get the Doppler-tuning function to work
with stability on a netbook with an Intel Atom processor driving an 8.9-inch

Well,

When I get to this stage I will offer to help anyone using teamview - I did
this yesterday with a beta-tester in Holland and in just a few minutes found
a serious resource leak. The main problem with netbooks is the graphics chip
isn't too fast, but I do have some poor code in the satellite tracking
anyway :)

My general aim is to be able to run HRD 5.0 on a netbook driving a 24"
display.

Hi Richard,

But why should a low mass launch cost more than say $100k a time, particularly
if it's only an "atmosphere skimmer" ?

We are used to Government run high-cost space operations, there are other ways
of doing things. Personally I'm skeptical about the Tonga operation. From
their website they appear desperate for money, not a good sign when they
haven't even got a launcher. But others will resolve the issues and I look
forward to the day in maybe 15-20 years when we have dozens of free enterprise
launch companies around the world.

The funeral market is potentially massive. I reckon each year tens (if not
hundreds) of thousands of people worldwide would fork out $10k for part of
their ashes to be sent out into space and then burn up in the atmosphere, with
of course an artists impression picture of their re-entry sent to their
nearest and dearest.

Hi Simon,

Let me begin with saying that I love your software. The only thing I mis
is a clear piece of documentation. For exmaple I am wondering what the
difference in behavior is between repeater/split and liniear inv. I have
asked this question on this email list and also on the HRD forum but no
satisfying anwer.

I also visited the wiki page but there also no answer.

Can you answer this question? I can imagine that there is a difference
in split versus liniear inv with regard to doppler behavior.

Hope to hear from you.

Hi,

Repeater is FM (AO-51), linear inverting is SSB (VO-52), Split is ISS when
on FM.

Hi,

I have 2 ELK antennas here, and I would like to do an experiment with
these two antennas. I would like to stack side by side, one vertical,
and one horizontal.

My question, what would be the distance between both antenna !?!?!

I will be using PVC tube to avoid interaction.

The phasing line... will it be hard to figure how to do it !?!?!?

Any rough guess to start with. I have an antenna analyzer here...
probably will be handy for that project.

I just want to experiment how good it could perform.

Any help would be appreciated.

Drew,

Thanks for the thoughts. BTW, there is yet another firmware update. You
have to dig down a bit, as there is nothing at the top level of the Alinco
site to tell you. Also, the English language cloning software beta is
available on the web site. Both came out after I hit the road to Logan, so
it will be 10 days before I can try either.

Thanks for the reply,

But how does HRD sat track know the difference between linear and non
linear birds?

The inverting part is done manual by selecting an other modulation. (would
be nice if that was also programmable together with ctcss)

But when you have a sat like DO-64 when rx goes up tx should go down this
wil have influence on the main slider when this is used, but there is no
way to select this when creating a frequency in the repeater/split linear
part.

And the documentation?, is there more then just the wiki pages?

I seem to recall the rule of thumb being at least 1/4 wave at the lowest
frequency of operation, unless the antenna was specifically designed to be
end-mounted to a metal support.

Hi!

I'm working on plans for Saturday, and looked at my maps again.
Since some are interested in working different counties, I wanted
to correct an item from my earlier e-mail. I will be in Arizona's
Navajo County, not Apache County, on Saturday. I will only be a
few miles/km from the Navajo/Apache county line, the Petrified
Forest National Park, and parts of the Navajo Nation reservation,
but not in the park or on that reservation. Barring problems on
Saturday, I still plan on being at the DM54/DM55 grid boundary
for the passes I referenced in the earlier e-mail.

Yaesu isn't currently marketing a satellite rig.
