Hey Reid,

Thanks for your note. Using the same package here - V 4.1, Build 1985.

And yes, you can access Satellite Tracker without connecting radios to it -
but you can't connect radios to it without ALSO connecting them to HRD.
Therein could lie the problem.

DM780 is useable without connecting radios to HRD. I routinely do that when
I'm working digital modes in HF.

My only interest in computer connection for Satellite Tracker is Doppler
control. I would like to be able to connect directly to it and use it as a
"stand-alone" without HRD involved. I believe that could/would solve the
issues I experience here.

I just downloaded HRD and am having trouble figuring out
How to look at more than one satelite at a time in the
Satellite part of the program.

I have not received any answer so i'm not sure if they are reading the
mail. A auto-reply would be nice.

I have only received 6packets in Norway. Not a optimal setup as the QTH
primary usage is for other services. But the beam is pointing NE and the
frequency is on 145.825 and no correction for doppler.

Gotcha! You are correct. maybe the independences that were discussed
with 5.x will take care of that problem. It would be nice to bring up
just the satellite portion only. I have been so use to using WISP32
since my SATGATE days that I use it most of the time except on my newer
radios. HRD indeed is very good and looks even more promising for the
future. I have downloaded the 5.x beta version but have yet to install
it to see how it does.

Hi,

One thing I'm doing at the moment is reducing the load from HRD, especially
with satellite tracking.

The redrawing of the screen is not as efficient as it should be, I'll sort
this out soon, I've also seen very high CPU load.

I also have a netbook for testing - all this hardware I have to buy costs a
lot but I hope it'll be worth it in the end.

Across the top of the screen - just above the map display - you'll see a
button with a satellite icon that says "New." Clicking on it gives you the
ability to select another satellites, and the program opens a new window. In
this regard, it works like Firefox or later versions of IE in that it "tabs"
the windows for each satellite.

I hope this helps. 73,

Believe me, the community appreciates all your great efforts. Being a
programmer myself, it can be a tremendous task to try and pacify most
people. You won't be able to do all of the people, and the price "is"
right, hi!.

Again, keep up the good work.

As a dedicated (but frustrated!) long time user of HRD Satellite stuff with
my TS2000 my own experience is that the new version 5 is still a problem.
However it would appear that the experience varies across hardware platform.

I know Simon has taken note of this from my posting on his forum.

I find the tracking, even when reduced to its most basic form, consumes huge
amounts of cpu time. I have also noticed that when connected to the radio
(via HRD) Doppler updating (and other radio functions) fails during periods
of fast change, i.e. when the sat passing overhead. Whilst HRD maintains
its functionality to the radio and to the tracking module it can be a pig to
get the tracking module to take back control.

Due to very poor coding of graphics I'm afraid :(

Sadly Alan, I am experiencing many of the same issues for satellite work. My
radio is one of the first 100 released at Dayton, and still has the 0.4
firmware. The sub receiver is very poor, and to me it sounds like it's a mile
wide. I've given it several trys while here in Denmark on vacation and I'm
pretty disgusted by the radio at this point. The full duplex on mine
absolutely does not work on satellite with either an Arrow or an AL-800
whip. Around TCA, I can hear myself just a little bit through the noise, and
that's as good as it gets. Not good enough for me! Full duplex is such an
important tool on the FM sats, especially portable.

I like the radio's construction, and I don't even mind the poor manual given
the newness of the radio. I did download, print and bind the new one, but
it's still a mess in my opinion. Other than using I with my buddy on 1.2
GHz, I don't think it'll get used much at all. Given we both also have the
F6 Kenwood, we are much more likely to use 222 FM at hamfests and such. It's
much lighter, and has just as good if not better battery life.

When I get home I hope to be able to do the firmware upgrade and see if it
improves the cross band full duplex issues. If not, I may have to put it on
Ebay. I hate being negative, but I had high hopes for this rig.

73, Drew OZ/KO4MA

Next week I will get it working well with my ASUS netbook - I've cracked the
CPU problems with the Rotator display already.

Than I'll report back.

That's excellent news, most encouraging. Wish I was able to do more to
assist.

Many thanks for the feedback.

Well,

When I get to this stage I will offer to help anyone using teamview - I did
this yesterday with a beta-tester in Holland and in just a few minutes found
a serious resource leak. The main problem with netbooks is the graphics chip
isn't too fast, but I do have some poor code in the satellite tracking
anyway :)

My general aim is to be able to run HRD 5.0 on a netbook driving a 24"
display.
