You can use USB<->SERIAL adapters just fine for external TNCs. They also
have TNC-X units, and daughter board TNC-PI units as well. Since you were
given nice external TNCs, use the USB-to-SERIAL adapters. They'll do what
you want. I can point you to a few nodes using them... one is even using
an external USB Hub to support 8 TNCs.
