Hi all historians,

"...the kite is struck by lightning..."

Oh dear, this BEGS to be fixed! I'll start with construction of the kite
experiment, the main string was the usual cotton that gets wet by rain, so
Franklin being nobody's fool used a short piece of silk string that doesn't
get wet between the cotton and himself as an insulator. Where the cotton and
silk joined he hung a key to collect the charge that traveled down the cotton
string. Holding the terminal of the Leyden jar, a capacitor, near the key a
spark jumped charging the capacitor that stored the charge. Later he ran a
few experiments with the Leyden jar proving it contained static electricity
from the clouds. THE KITE WAS NOT STRUCK BY LIGHTNING, IF THAT HAPPENED
FRANKLIN WOULD HAVE BEEN ELECTROCUTED!

"Franklin died at age 84 on April 17, 1790, in Philadelphia."

This much is true, if the kite were struck the date would be Jun. 10 1752 and
Poor Richard would have been Poor Ben, an early winner of the Darwin Award.
Here lies Poor Ben
He flew a kite now and then
It was struck by lightning
Oh so very frightning
Here lies Poor Ben

wilderness to the Mafia. All the great things and all the worst,
like Route 22."
