Last week I announced that I was replacing my Outpost User
program with Winpack in order to "take another look at Winpack".
This has been done and I have some interesting information (my
opinion, of course) to share with you. First, to "level the
playing field", Outpost has some "specialized" operating
functions that are of interest, not to the "general purpose"
packet operator, but to packet operators working in those
"specialized" fields. These functions were not evaluated and were
not included in this analysis. This evaluation is for "general
purpose" packet operations and operators.

The bottom line first.. It was found that Winpack could do almost
all of the things that Outpost could do..

Send and receive p-mail and bulletins.. YES
Send and receive NTS messages (With add-on) YES
Send and receive Packet-to-Winlink messages.. YES **
Send and receive Packet-to-Email messages.. YES **
Send P-Mail, Winlink, E-Mail from a "Distribution List".. YES **
Send and receive all messages using Automatic mode.. YES
Allow "copy-and-paste" in P-Mail, Winlink, and Bulletins.. YES
Append prepared "signature" to any or all messages.. YES
Keep, Delete, or Archive any or all messages.. YES
Automatically address "REPLY TO" messages (except E-Mail).. YES
Choice of "REPLY" to either Topic or Sender.. YES
Ability to "FORWARD" messages to another User.. NO
Contains an "Address Book".. YES
Ability to switch between RADIO and TELNET connections.. YES
  ** = Using a BPQ bbs.
Winpack is MUCH more efficient at retrieving messages from a BBS.
Winpack is able to "quote" messages in a REPLY function.
Winpack message ARCHIVE is more efficient and easier to maintain.
Winpack message ARCHIVE does not slow down message retrieval.
Outpost is MUCH better at FORWARDing messages.
Outpost is able to send messages to multiple addressees.
Winpack E-Mail messages from a Distribution List are sent Bcc.
Winpack "compose" function will automatically format line-length.
Winpack will run in all Windows 32-bit systems. (Ask for info).

For "general purpose" use, I have found Winpack to be a
formidable contender for Outpost.
