Hi Ian and fellow lurkers,
Ah, you're still out there reading one of the few bulls left I see. Thanks
for the heads up and I imagine other lurkers thank you, slaves in England is
something I never knew until now. My great great grandfather Freidrich Eggers
emmigrated from Germany and settled in Elizabeth, NJ and became a policeman
so for sure he never owned a slave. I get the message though, succeeding
generations should never be held responsible for the sins of their ancestors.
Naturally the propaganda of the 1960s that fueled the Civil Riots of 1967 was
heavy on slavery and the majority of Blacks believed it, oh well.
One thing that has come to light recently dispelled a popular myth, Congress
DID appropriate funds for freed slaves' return to Freetown, Sierra Leone,
West Africa. Naturally the myth was part of the propaganda and I was among
the majority of Americans that believed it.
