Hi all,

This is a rousing date in history, 16 Feb. 1801, with a rousing song to go
with it. When the US Navy attacked Tripoli in response to savage acts of
piracy it gave inspiration for the US Marines theme song I'm sure most of you
heard that begins "From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli..."
Another thing, but you may not know it is why the title of a John Wayne movie
is titled Flying Leathernecks. The Marine Air Corps was called such because
of the Muslim penchant for beheading, they wore heavy leather neck bands as
protection.

And there you have it, another history lesson from my little dusty corner of
the library. Why? Although I got good marks in school they don't teach
everything in history class. The really good stuff is found in dusty corners.

"New Jersey, the most American of all states. It has everything from
wilderness to the Mafia. All the great things and all the worst,
like Route 22."
