National Volunteer Week 12th to 18th May 2008
Date : 08 / 05 / 2008
Author : Robert Broomhead - VK3KRB
National Volunteer Week (NVW) will be held from the 12th to 18th May
2008. The theme of NVW is "Volunteers Change Our World".
National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to highlight the role of
volunteers in our communities and to say thank you to the more than 5
million Australians who volunteer.
As radio amateurs we can be proud to be included in volunteer week,
from our trainers, assessors, office volunteers through to the
valuable services we voluntarily provide to the community through
amateur radio.
Volunteering Australia CEO, Cary Pedicini, said that many Australians
deserve a pat on the back. "National Volunteer Week is a time we
reflect on the amazing contribution volunteers make to their local
communities and say thank you for their efforts."
"We cannot underestimate what is achieved by volunteers who
contribute more than 700 million hours of community service to so
many areas of society from the justice system, emergency services,
health and welfare through to almost every level of sport. "
"Make sure you take every opportunity to say thank you during
National Volunteer Week."
"Volunteering Australia acknowledges the wonderful support of NAB and
the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and
Indigenous Affairs for their support of National Volunteer Week and
volunteering. Their support is vital to helping us thank Australia's
volunteers."
Further details on National Volunteer Week activities are available
from the NVW web site at www.volunteeringaustralia.org/nvw including
a list of NVW activities.
People who are looking for volunteering opportunities can choose from
more than 10,000 voluntary positions at www.govolunteer.com.au
National Volunteer Week is proudly supported by NAB and the
Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous
Affairs.
