A sensible approach. You mention your BBS uses Win98. I would be 
reluctant to allow a W98 machine to receive incoming internet connections
as there is no longer any security support from Microsoft. You dont say 
if you use the W98 machine for anything else or if it just hosts the BBS.
If it's the latter, you could consider upgrading to a more secure and supported
OS. Win2k/WinXp would be the choices but they cost money unless you have
some licences unused and also may require more computer horsepower than the
W98 machine has. Alternatively you could run Linux on the W98 machine instead
and use FBB for Linux. That probably is a much bigger learning curve for you
but you may find the task of learning about the OS etc entertaining.

I'm sure others will have suggestions. It'll be interesting to see what
is suggested.
