That belongs in the HUMOUR thread. Oh never mind, that's a rhetorical
question, we all know the phrase money talks. In American English it's we're
too big to fall, but maybe that which was splashed all over the public media
here didn't make it across the big pond.

I don't know how it goes in the UK, but the only difference between Russia
and the US is the prison system. Skilling was sentenced to 24+ years in
prison alright, but there are 2 kinds of prisons, in Poor Man's Prison they
do hard time but Rich Man's Prison is a country club with all the comforts of
home on the taxpayer's dollar of course and if you ever visited one you'd
never guess it was a prison. Some years ago vacationing in Pennsylvania I was
doing my usual exploration of the area, let's see where this road goes, and I
drove right into one. I thought it was a country club, golf course, tennis
courts, olympic size swimming pool, the works! When I got home remembering
where I'd been I did a bit of on line exploration, it isn't a country club,
it's a federal prison. You don't think he spent 24 years in "prison" now do
you? The news doesn't cover old news, a few days after the story it's over
and forgotten, but you can bet your bottom dollar, pound, ruble, shekel in a
few years he was out still living in the lap of luxury and back to his old
tricks.
Oh hey, Enron isn't the only synonym, another quite like it is Elron. I'm
sure you've heard of L. Ron Hubbard... say no more.
I guess by now as the years have gone by you all know how I feel about these
people and "the American way".
