The use of the extra F is at 1st sight really dumb for the reasons you
state. You'd have to modify all the embedded firmware including all those
TNCs occasionally used.

Then perhaps the use of the extra letter becomes quite clever. It stops VK
foundation licencees from doing things they shouldn't.

Bet that the 2nd option wasn't actually the reason the extra letter exists!
