Hi Pete and all,
We've been wondering whether or not you received our replies to your last
bull, now the question has been answered. You discovered your routing error,
unless you use the H (heirarchal) destination codes, most of which are
unfamiliar to me because I don't use them, your message will be posted on
your home BBS but will not be forwarded. Will some nice sysop please post or
PM Pete those codes? I see you at least figured out worldwide (WW) so that's
taken care of.
Ah, if Win XP virtual is installed on a Windows machine it uses some features
of the primary OS but when it's Linux or Mac (don't know if Mac is even
possible) none of those features exist and likely the installation will fail.
If you can dual boot you shouldn't have any problems, XP will like any OSes
you put on the computer will be stand alone. I'm sure you'd be much better
off this way without having to monkey around with DLLs. BTW, worth repeating
is the web site http://nl3asd.tripod.com/winpack.html where you'll find
downloads for every version of Winpack plus all the add-ons courteously
provided by Roger's friends covering all but one base since he went SK a few
years ago. Unfortunately nobody has carried on his work and written a new
version compatible with the latest versions of Windows and most unfortunately
Linux and Mac.
Don't be confused, Winpack is written in Visual Basic for the most part, I
wrote C++ because I heard parts of it were written in it but not being an
ubergeek I've not confirmed or denied it. Maybe I'm wrong?
"I like many other lids are using the internet to connect..."
Yeah, we're undoubtedly cheesing off W0RLI dead or alive. (;->)
No excuses, we adopted the "ham" insult tagged on us by commercial ops in
days of yore, now we can also wear land line lids as a badge of pride so
screw 'em!
Speaking of RF channels, back in the day when the regional NEBBS packet
network was extensive and strong, North Jersey offices of emergency
management (OEMs) set up a ghost BBS network within it (I witnessed its
inception on the network when they were visible) but being ghostly have no
idea if it still exists after the network itself became largely ghostly.
So you live in Vegas, you unfortunate soul. We have one such as you on The
Island Of Misfit Hams https://forums.hamisland.net/forum.php who is dieing to
escape to greener pastures. You know the drill, all costs through the roof in
town and out in the desert where it's cheap is a bit of a distance through
wilderness. BTW, all of you guys out there are invited to check us out and if
you've got the guts (;->) sign up and be privelidged to the members only
forums invisible to visitors. I roll out the red carpet since the Terrible
Three from the UK who drove away most of the survivors of the Packet Wars
(land line lids vs. radio only purists) are now thankfully absent.
If you want to soar like an eagle, don't flock with turkeys.
