Hi Danny and packeteers,

I KNEW there was a catch, a timed disable of use of the unproto list in the
trial version is as good a reason as any to register it. Cracking that
software obviously isn't as easy as deleting the spash screen in Winpack
(Roger made it easy on purpose?) but likely someone on one of those
"underground" web sites like the (in)famous Pirate's Den wrote a crack, you
can never tell about some hams. (;->)

No big deal auto decoding 7+, there is software out there for it since 7+ is
a very old way of sending digital files in ASCII. Considering the boring
redundancy of images on the BBS I've not used it in so long I forgot how and
am not prompted to read the instructions again. (;->)

Since some Amateur software developers got past the "16 bit barrier" all is
not lost, they realize that time marches on and 16 bit is a dinosaur unusable
by today's OSes. DOS? The Dummy's Operating System that reminds one of that
DOS For Dummies book that got us through the rigors of setting up computers
in days of yore, one MAJOR pain where I sit. Oh, the beauty of the beast is
it's nearly bulletproof and restarts without a hiccup requiring no special
shut down procedure. That's why it's a reliable system at remote BBSes where
a power outage is no problem so a sysop doesn't have to go to the site to
restart the computer. I know, that remote node/BBS I've mentioned a few times
is located in the loft above the famous Hangar 1 at Lakehurst, NJ NAS, the
Hindenburg hangar. Squirreled away amid many repeaters from a local Fire
Department to high level government stuff every once in a while a tech trips
over the rack's power cord pulling it from the wall socket giving a couple of
club techs with clearance to the base fits. Why not change the plug to a
twist lock? Because they'd have to change the wall socket too and tampering
with US Government property would get them in serious trouble and spell the
end of a critical network node isolating everything to the south. (:-<)
DOS to the rescue but it doesn't give relief to a royal pain in the butt.
