Good article so. Many of us have analyzed over the years the
demise of packet.
Of this : Intelligence was /is never questioned. We all
have/ had to undergo some official tests and rigomarole.
What Hams (People in general) are lacking is tolerance.
Remember? On 2 meters the repeater police? Packet enjoyed
the same for years.
Point in case : Winpacks inventor Roger Barker saw it
coming...He fostered the strict use of Bulletin adresses. To
its certain and recognised interrests.
Overrun in so many cases,it came to no discrimintion at all
in later times.
Packet radio ? Has it been intelligently used?
Point in case...Ermm. We have here in South Africa so many
listeners (only) without rarely a contribution.
Missing intelligence? Rarely so. Many are just stiff
petrified to write anything because of the : Flaming,
ridicule or well, plain desinterrest...not so?
There where interrest groups for planes, locomotives,
engines and more. BUT : there where always complains about
that.
7+ size, encoding, editing, formatting, setting, style and
errors.
So many teachers are here voicing their concern abot the
language, style and use. Good. We all should learn.
BUT !
Then , any good teacher knows: Give it time, hard work and
substance, kids will take time , as well as ANY beginner in
a new game...
And then , plain Englisch it must be.
Could there be a Sysop not understanding the means of a bull
and become the traitor to hamming...also inadvertandly?
And so on.

hamming :

Recocgnised the self regulatory inheritance of Ham -Radio.
Intelligence?
With its grandeur of communications - worldwide came a
inbuild tolerance of :
Other Hams, from other regions, languages and interrests.
The "Inbuild" Embassadorship of treating others (Hams) as
you would treat your own...
Painfull...isn't it?
Not even I can say that I fullfilled this role perfectly
But with the words of Ray... I try.
And again : NO ! Inteligence is not the key to Hamming or
packet.
Tolerance, the will to communicate against your better ego!
And the acceptance of other beeings thant live in your own
state.
E.G. the World as a global village?
Yes, for Hams definately so.
Period.
Ahem , The Titanic started it ... figuratively.
Would YOU like to Packet have an end to Comms?
Sink gracefully at least.
With other words :
Technology has overrun Hamming.
The one rule for Hams has been shattered :
To keep up with the front of development.
