Hi Pete (and all),
Ah yes, Hoosier Land, dead birds, the 500, but no Ian. <oops> (;->)
Hmmm, funny thing, I haven't seen TV ads for the usual October stuff but with
cable and targeted advertizing plus not watching any OTA stations (even
though "must carry" puts them on cable) I don't know if my old friend and his
Abracadabra Magic Shop are still around. He started in a strip mall in
Colonia, NJ around the corner from me and later moved to Manhattan, I haven't
seen him since. (:-<) He at least used to run an ad on NY TV but like I said
I don't watch it anymore. Ah the memories of theatrical costumes, movie
themed Halloween parties and a basement full of Planet Apes. That's when I
was introduced to two classic Vincent Price films, The Abominable Doctor
Phibes and Phibes Rises Again. Since then I aquired them in digital format
and since day one have been fascinated by the Abominable theme, Mendolsohn's
War March of the Priests arranged for organ by Virgil Fox. I found the
original recording of the full length version recorded at a cathedral in
London, downloaded it to the archives too.
Oh, the generic Merry Christmas has nothing to do with that politically
correct nonsense, it came about a couple of decades earlier. "They" got lazy
and shortened it to Xmas, then lazier still they combined the holidays to
"happy holidays" and "seasons greetings". They would be happy if they had
names and frankly I never greeted seasonings I put on the Christmas meal. Eh,
I don't consider it a religious holiday since I'm not a Pagan celebrating a
birthday at the wrong time of year so I'm Alfred E. Neumann on that one.

What, me worry?
Oh those classic leather bomber jackets, they HAD to be warm at Arctic
temperatures encountered at cruising altitude with no pressure or heat in the
aircraft. That real wool was fleece, sheep know how to keep warm. I don't
know about the US gubmint but it's a fair guess Canada had quite a surpulus
after the war and issued them to employees. Therein lies the difference,
instead of giving them they were issued so they remained GI and they can do
with their property as they please even if it means distroying it. Lately the
US military has been destroying obsolete radios and electronics rather than
auctioning it off as in times past. At least the UK still declassifies and
demilitarizes it allowing hams to utilize the old Clansman radios. Hey, not
the KKK since it's UK, they have the Scottish Highland Clans. (;->)
"Have no clue as to the Honey Bee situation..."
That's why I stress PLEASE don't connect it with Monsanto as nobody else has.
The European ban on GMO foods has NOTHING to do with bees and neither does
other countries allowing them and none of it has anything to do with money
when the reason is public health. It's like the German beer purity law,
Europeans simply don't like messing with their food. I see where you're
coming from as I agree that just because something is legal doesn't make it
right, that makes it easy to go off on a tangent in the wrong direction. Just
be careful what you believe so you don't get caught in the conspiracy
theorists' net and become one of them.
Sure, I know figure skating doesn't make wimps or homosexuals but father had
some screwy ideas and that was just one of them. You mentioned power skating,
I was at my best in figure skates because they fit properly, the hocky skates
didn't and I fell on my butt if I was lucky, my face when I wasn't. Can't
argue with him, especially when he bought them, you may as well talk to a
stone. The Parks Department operated an indoor refrigerated rink in a park
the next town over but too far to walk and bikes can be stolen so I stuck
with the lake nearby until those ill fitting hockey skates came along. I
mentioned the skate house, a windowless hut with a wood stove going bye bye,
the rink soon followed for the same reason, Italian Disease. What, you never
heard of lacafunza? <groan>
Double smoked ham, eh? Here's one for YOU!
