Hi Tony & others
The -ve fuse is stop fires when U earth the rig to car chassis (via aerial) &
the starting earth lead battery to engine via chassis is poor. Then 100s of
amps can flow on your nice rig lead!

Years ago I have seen a red hot choke cable "due to this fault" (not my car),

To 12V keep connections good use clean them & use water repelant grease like
Petroleum jelly. To keep 12V drop low shorten the leads!
