Dear All...

I felt that 80ish mA was safe for the 5 unknown LEDs, and it has been
working like this quite happily now for a week.
Most specs. seem to say that up to 20mA or even 30mA per LED is the
maximum allowed, so I have a little headroom if the NiCDs are replaced
with non-rechargeable.
However, I am aware that there are some "super" batteries around that
are used by the military, e.g. Duracell AA batteries that have a red
top instead of a copper one - can't quite recall the details, but I
think they had a lower internal resistance and a higher output voltage,
e.g. approx. 1.9V when new?
