Hi Phill and all,

You can take a good guess at their maximum corrent rating by destructive 
testing at least one. Just substitute a rheostat for the fixed ballast 
resistor, lower the value until the LED pops and measure the value. Then use 
a fixed resistor of a somewhat higher value and you're good to go.

As a QC inspector I used to run hydrostatic tests on pressure vessels. My 
favorite was the burst test. (;->)
