Hello Bill (KG6BAJ),

Thank you for your bulletin about the heatwave in California, your air conditioning
and the new car. I wonder if you've got the radio equipment installed in
it yet?

The heatwave continues over here, and is the reason why it's taken me so
long to reply... I'm away from home, using an Internet link to reach my
BBS. But the heat is affecting the Cable modem at home, causing my system
to keep dropping off the net. Hence I haven't been able to access for long
periods (there's no RF packet network in this country any more, otherwise
I'd be using RF!). It neatly demonstrates the value of having RF as a backup.

Now the heatwave is breaking down, we have thunderstorms, which keep tripping
out the power. Honestly I've worked harder to keep the system going this
week than I have for a long time!

I *still* have a DOS XRouter running, providing my Internet connection.
It's really stood the test of time. But my Packet node is now using XR32,
which is the Windows version of XRouter.

And only last week I finally retired my DOS XServ BBS after 20 years service,
mostly buried under a pile of junk in the garage. It was still working perfectly,
and I only retired it because the CMOS battery failed. I'm now running the
Windows version of XServ (XS32) on the same PC as my XR32 node, thereby
saving some power.

I'm taking a summer break from programming at the moment, but both projects
(XR32 and XS32) are very much alive - although I sometimes wonder why I
bother, as there are so few of us left on Packet.

The ant hill is getting bigger, and the flowers smell beautiful! :-)

Regards,
Paula
