.
I cannot hesitate to make my comments to a very good coverage.

There was a movie (btw: I am not too old to remember this story)
in the Germn TV which gave a VERY GOOD idea of that what really
happens. Of course with an aditional love story", that is
obviously a "Must", hi ) But very well and very sensible
reported. The movie was named " Die Luftbrücke"

The reason behind was the change of the old currency to the new
"Deutsche Mark (DM)" and the efforts to etablish a (West) German
nation, the "Bundesrepublik" (Fedral Germany) Stalin hoped to
"dry out" Berlin which he ever regarded as the "Capitol" of
Eastern Germany.

Your coverage is very real but one thing you did not know or did
not mention: Stalin announced military action which he tryed
whilst these flights which had been done in three "corridors",
like air roads. That was due a contract as the "thee zones" had
been established. So he started an "air combat manouvre" to
disturb the ingoind and outgoing planes, Soviet fighter flew
through the non-stop-coming "bomber"

You unfortunatelly did not mention about a high number of allied
pilots (Britisch and US), being "killed in action". There is a
monument in Berlin looking like a bended bridge honoring these
braves!

One of the airbases to the Allieds is very closed to me ,
Wunstorf, today a base of our Army Flying Transport Corps (Not:
Airforce) IF a pilot missed the touch down for what reason ever
he had to turn around and fly back, the routes of arrival and
departer had beeen seperate. No second chance for landing!

So if I follow the movie (must be true , it was produced by
Hollywood, grin) your president ordered two Nuclar Weapon
Carrying bomber somewhere to UK as a warning to Stalin.

Stalin hoped to the cold winter and was in doubt, whether this
giantic enterprise ever could come to success. To Stalin it was a
real big shock about the insistence of the Allied which he never
had put in consideration.

The American did use mainly the military type of the DC 3 (C47?)
, really a work horse. They had a speciall nick-name: Raisin -
bomber!

One story is well remembered within the Berlins; the pilots came
to the idea to drop whilst flying in low altitude little home
brew parachutes with sweets and chocolate to the children, even
to Easter Berlin children which caused some diplomatic flak,
grins

In the begin there was a very controversal discussion in your
government, if "yes" or "no" and your president had to fight
agains strong objections. Organized by an US -General, a man who
was, concerning the mangagement a genius! (Sorry, I forgot his
name but you will know)

All nmy best regards
