Yes. I too saw the 'spaghetti crop' spoof on TV, was it really as far back
as 1957 ?

A later thing which I thought was stupid was when one of our programmes
aimed mainly at children, ran an item about someone who had invented a
small box whivh could record and play back 100s of tunes. This was the
early 1980s when the idea of recording to RAM was possible but only really
limited by cost.
The next day the presenters of the programme said "April Fool".

I was quite annoyed at them. They did their 'spoof' in ignorance. Nowadays
we can all record thousands of tracks to our mobile 'phones on an SD chip
the size of a little fingernail. Shortly after they did that programme, I
had a pocket TV set which, for whatever reason, never really caught on, so
a pocket sound recorder was well within the bounds of possibility.

In 1995, someone on packet sent out a bull to APR1L, which I learnt later
was a nasty bit of malware. Being suspicious, I just deleted the thing
before opening. Not every country has an equivalent of April 1st so, if
true, it was a stupid thing to do. I wonder if modern PCs would detect it
?

The BBCs version of the 'spaghetti farm' was put on the news as being an
item from Italy but well set up by somebody. There was a later thing about
'pepper mines' which a lot of people believed, that was quite good.
