Hi Pete and anyone interested,
Too bad you missed Carlin on HBO, he did a sequel with an expanded list, a
scroll that he unwound all over the stage. I learned a few new ones. (;->)
Funny thing about that overriding tone on broadcast, it became part of the
lexicon as in bleep/bleeping substituted for the word. WBAI for one didn't
use a tone, the board operator heard the word(s) in headphones from the first
tape deck and lowered the gain pot temporarily to kill the second one's feed.
There were some exceptions when callers talked about "strange" subjects but
no FCC words, a fairly regular one they called the enema lady was hystrical.
Yeah, her favorite and only subject. BTW, one such person made the news and
Frank Zappa wrote a little known song; The Illinois Enema Bandit.
Yeah, the sound dropouts in the Sandy concert. Performed live before a packed
house with celebreties on the telephones and many notables in the audience
mostly politicians like our beloved Governor Christie performers didn't clean
up the lyrics because who would recognize them? I watched it on a cable
channel and normally little is censored not being public broadcast but it was
televised worldwide so there was that limited censorship of the broadcast.
BTW Christie true to form looked like he took up four seats blocking
everything around him when his name was announced and he stood up. Good thing
he isn't a Congressman, they're only supposed to have one seat.
That's interesting, your CB callsign not only had an XM prefix but it
included two numbers. Obviously CB didn't follow Amateur districts like ours
did, I mentioned previously the first ones were the district number W, the
reverse of Amateur like 2Wxxxx. Then came the odd one, Q instead of W which
doesn't make sense, Q is not a US ITU assignment.
Hmmm, American CBers trying to communicate with Canadian hams on channel 2
may have been a one way street if your rules are anything like ours. Non
Amateur stations are other services or unlicensed so we're not allowed to
communicate with them. I inadvertantly broke that rule a few years ago on 10M
when I heard a couple of UK mobiles using their CB calls that I thought were
entry level ham calls. On the other hand they too broke the rules
transmitting out of band and stupid too, using their calls made them a target
for Ofcom.
Heh, the infamous Benton Harbor Lunchbox came in 3 (?) flavors, 11M, 6M and
2M that quickly fell out of favor when there was more than one station on the
band. Yeah, those regenerative receivers didn't need a tuning dial. (;->) A
positive puch? That has an ominous ring to it (;->) so I think you meant
push. 900MHz is a garbage band with everything from soup to nuts including
ham nuts so putting CB on it would be a huge conflict of interest.
Politicians are clueless when it comes to radio so somebody must have told
them 900 is as practical as a screen door in a (yellow) submarine.
That's very strange, those models you mentioned were all Class D that
shouldn't have had BRS capability without substituting crystals. The 11M BRS
radios I remember were single channel with no way of changing it without
changing crystals, only volume and squelch on the front panel. I wish I could
remember the "export" radio that was throttled back to 5W for Class D but
bypass a resistor and it went to 30W. I used to deal with a ham who ran a CB
shop in his basement, he held a P2 (now GROL) as well so he knew radios
inside out and did excellent work. He sold those radios with the clipped
resistor and they sold like hotcakes, he showed me the resistor in question
too. Good thing he never got caught at it, he put both licenses on the line
rather foolishly. Let's do the mental math, double power for 3dB increase so
30W gives a hair over 6dB which is ONE WHOLE S UNIT. WOW! (;->)
What do you mean the internet is void in Cuba? When I was a lot more active
than I am now every so often Arnie Coro CO2KK and I used to exchange e-mail.
He's still very active with RHC and uses the station's mail server. RHC also
has a website so yeah, Cuba is on the internet only you never mention
politics and don't DARE sa a bad thing about Castro. Arnie said one thing
funny as all get out, he likes winter because that's when Castro turns on the
air conditioning. BTW, I wonder if there's a CO2GAS.
Oh boy did this get long. PLEASE don't quote much next time, the connection
will time out before I finish reading it. (;->)
