As amateurs, we do not have copyright protection for things we say (or impart
by written words) over any mode. Open communication and open access to all
communications by anyone. This means other amateurs or even the "media" has
the right to rebroadcast anything we say or transmit over the air without
permission. This is at the the very forefront of our hobby. I know of no
regulatory body having oversight of amateur radio that allows for codes and
cyhpers but rather insist that all communications must be transmitted "in the
clear". The FCC here in the United States has allowed the transmission of
amateur messages using digital compression formats, so that argument is just
so yesterday.

My my take on this all, with the understanding that whatever we say is not
protected, why are we concerned about protecting anything we have said? We
just don't have any right to it. Now on the other hand if what you are
posting to an amateur BBS is copyrighted material that has not been
previously transmitted by its author(s) over amateur radio or has been
specifically given permission by the authour(s) to make public over amateur
radio then you are in violation of copyright law. I guess you could say that
the cards are stacked against us in this matter, but that is how the cookie
crumbles.

In the end, if it is something that you would prefer not to have posted in
other realms of communication then perhaps it is best sent as an email.

That's my two cents, okay, dollar... inflation is hitting!
