Hello Dave

Picking up on your Win7 question.
I decided that I wanted a 64bit version as required more than 6GBit of
RAM memory. Also wanted to future proof as have in the past only purchase
old PC's in the past.

After chatting to others on 'Packet' one to one QSO's.
via Node hopping and WWC amprnet convers network
I became aware that there was a possiblity that some of my old windows
legacy applications would not load. As later proved to be the case.

I decided that I needed to go for the Win7 Professional
that supported the
Windows Virtual PC
Windows XPMODE Applications
and included the free WinXp licence

The first 32bit windows application would not install. Windows reported
that it was not compatable in it's 32 or 64 bit mode.

So followed the link to the Microsoft Windows7 website
and followed the instructions and installed the two applications mentioned
above.

Installed the 32 bit window application.

Now it appears on the Win7 Start menu. Click the tab, the virtual PC loads
up in the backgroud and the 32bit App runs along side the other 32/64 bit
applications.

Disavantage. Much more expensive that Win7 Starter/Home Basic
Advantage I should be able to run my legacy applications
as I migrate them across as needs arise.
Memory Found this on the web -
Win7 64 bit versions Starter,Home Basic, Max memory 8Gb
                     Home Premium 16Gb
                     Professional 192Gb
                     Enterprise 192Gb
                     Ultimate 192Gb

To think that you can run a linux server with 128Mb to 700Mb ram (currently
showing 700mb used)
just shows how bloated and slow windows software has got in the past
20+ years

Also decided that I will not be upgrading the new machine to Win8

Hope that helps Dave
Regards
