I suppose the best move is to find Proportional Representation with a
search engine. That is the blanket term,PR has various versions,
ClosedList,Open List and Preferential voting are just three of them.
Our European voting system is Closed list BTW.

The way Barry described his is a similar form to the one we get, where you
tick 1,2,3, etc, for the order in which you 'prefer' the candidates.
This leads to the the candidat most people want, coming in first.

I don't like some things about the Euro MPs, mainly that minority parties
with a single isue like the Greens and UKIP, the UK Independance Party
whose sole reason for existence is to get the UK ou of the European Union
and themselves out of a job.But democracy is the name of the game and PR
is nalso a way of getting more choice, however stupid you might think some
people's choices might be.

I am by no means happy with the way the EU has gone but some things I
like. One is the common currency in the Eurozone meaning you don't have to
carry pocketsfull of different currencies as you go through different
countries and get ripped off when you get back and change back only the
notes into Pounds Sterling. The other is the Schengen plan, where you can
go from one country to another without having to go through customs, just
as Americans go from one state to another without stopping.

One bit I don't like is the way that the price of an item can cost twice
as much in, say, France as it does in Belgium and the netherlands, a true
common market would keep prices and wages fairly equal in all member
states.

I personally, like to go in to the areas frequented by the locals which
does mean that you might need some phrases in the local language, in fact,
after checking out various countries, I am considering Greece, mainly
because of the very low prices. Even in the centre of Athens the prices
are very low. Even in April or September, there should still be a lot of
sunshine.

I have even gone as far as downloding the Greek lessons from BYKI,
Transparent Language. The easy bit for me is that I can still read the
alphabet from the ancient Greek of my schooldays but the pronunciation has
changed a lot. I don't know if I will go, it depends on whether I can
afford a Lo-Cost flight. I have checked on Trip Advisor, for which I am a
reviewer and other reviewers have said that they had no trouble despite
all the riots reported on the news. The Greeks welcome tourists as a
source of incom and are, apparently friendly and polite. I hope I can
manage it.

. Back to the US. 'Mutt' in England means a dog or a stupid person. I
don't know anything about Mr Obama, after the first shock of him getting
in had sunk in so I'll go back to using his real name. I don't know if it
was on the news but the Black 'minorities' here were having street parties
when he was elected. They knew nothing of his politics but they could see
his colour.

Anyway, from CSPAN and other news items, I have the suspicion that Hilary
Clinton has a lot of power..

C Ya.

p.s. I have actually eaten baloney but avoid it like hot dogs and burgers.

We still have the problem of changing languages but that is not a big
problem if you are visiting a port or resort where it is in their interest
to speak English
