I thought N0KPQ was going to tell us all about something American that
happened on the 14th of July, Instead, he went back to the crusades.
The 14th July means one thing to me, just like millions of frenchmen, it
is Bastille Day. A day which is a bit like mentioning the 4th of july to
an American and forgetting to mention that it is their national day,
calebrated by fireworks, dancing in the streets etc.
Lat year, for the first time in over 40 years I was in France on the 14th
July and coud watch the preparations for, what is to the french a very big
event. Celebrating the day when they startd their revolution and equalised
things by chopping off the heads of the King Lois XVI and hundreds of
other well fed aristocrats.
These were people who had lived it up and lived off the work of the
starving poor. It still took nearly 100 years and trouble with napoleaon
before they finally changed to a republic.
Despite the Russians doing something similar to Tsar Nikolas II in 1917,
many countries still think they can have people sleeping on the streets in
winter while others spend more on a single meal than the lower classes
have to live on for a week.
This is happening now in the UK and the USA.
