The following is an e-mail reply to the "TODAY" bulletin of
April 18 entitled "Luther defiant at Diet of Worms".

I find Klaus' critique and additional information very interesting
so I am including it in this "TODAY" bulletin to share with the
rest of "TODAY" readers.

------------------------

another one, very interesting and in its basic correct..

But not complete.

ONE of his merits had been to form the written German language,
till his translation of the Holy Bible into German this book
existed only in Latin languages.

Before that only hundred s of dialects took place in the daily
conversation, often not understood within a range of 50 kilometer
around.

This was wanted by the Roman Catholic Church because "amateurs"
should not read the bible, the sence should only be interpreted
by the clerus.

Luther, after his return from Worms was "restrained" by the Count
of Thuriniga and brought to the castel "Wartburg" because the
count became alerted that Luther should be assisinated on his way
back.

Under the protection of the Count he translated the bible on the
castle.

A big tragedy occured as Luther wrote: "All men are equal" and
meant: "equal to the face of GOD"

The farmer, pained by the nobelity and regarded as "property to
the Nobelity" with the duty of carrying out a lot of unpayed
workload misunsertood it and started a raging war against the
knights and barrons - with the follow of thousand and thousand
killed men, where the farmers lost (untrained to warfare against
higly trained knights and their mercenaries.) their lifes.

The ravons had a good time that days!

Hope to read a lto of more

your critical (grin) radio friend Klaus, DL8OL (Voice of reason)
