Recommended software:

The UZ7HO Soundmodem has noticeably better receive capability than
any of the dozens of hardware and software Packet modems that I have
tried.

For HF Packet in particular, this modem offers the best receive
performance currently available. - An easily noticeable improvement
over the ( previous ) best.

On the HF Packet network that I participate in, I used the UH7HO
Soundmodem with the excellent G8BPQ node/BBS software and started
seeing both sides of Packet QSOs that previously I had only copied
one side of. Stations appeared on my HEARD list from states that had
not been represented there, before.

The modem software was written with APRS in mind, and there is
where I would expect the most benefit.

According to the blurb:

"A soundcard software KISS TNC for 300 and 1200 baud packet that is
a direct drop-in replacement for the AGW Packet Engine in programs
such as UIview, APRSpoint, etc. Features tunable audio tones and
can receive on two frequencies/radios at the same time with a stereo
sound card input."

Here's the UZ7HO Web Page, where you can get the software:

If you use it, remember that it is still in development so keep an
eye out for new versions with more bells 'n whistles, etc..

I recently downloaded a newer version and found that it was a
significant improvement over the older version that I had been
testing.

It's free, and it works as advertised. Check it out.
