I heard some other versions of the 'Concordski' story back in the '60s.
Concord was originally intended to be British but we were very short of
money in those days so did a deal with the French which they agreed to
provided we put an 'e' on the end.
WWe knew that the Russians were spying on us with a view to making an
earlier copy of Concord so plans were left around for them to find with
deliberate 'mistakes' which they incorporated into 'Concordski' making it
fail dismally.

My personal view of Concord(e) right from the start was that it was
another big, costly mistake. An aircraft designed for the very rich to fly
1st class in, approximately 3x the fare to go at twice the speed.

his proved true in practice. People who could afford to travel by Concorde
just refused and chose to pay normal fares instead.

The aircraft which was under development at the same time and which
appealed to me was the Airbus, designed to carry more people, more cheaply
than other jets.
We had already made the mistake of introducing railways aimed at the rich
while other countries chose to build railways subsidised by goods
transport.
We still do have disgustingly expensive railways while other countries
operate sensibly priced rail transport using British inventions like the
High Speed Train ( TGV,ICE and Bullet), the Maglev trains being built in
Japan, Germany and Russia.

When I go anywhere now, I use the low -cost airlines, most of which do use
the Airbus. Faster and cheaper than going by rail.

The Airbus was built by the same Anglo French consortium as the overpriced
Concorde. The final assembly takes place at Blagnac near Toulouse in
France.

They are still built there right up to the A 380, the biggest in the world
with it's excellent Rolls Royce Trent 1000 jet engines. The agreement
between britain and France took place when we had Harold Wilson as Prime
Minister, a man so popular with the French that they built Harold Wilson
Square in the centre of Toulouse where people sit to have their lunch in
the bright sunshine.

I was there sitting having a snack and a biere on the 14th July last. The
French national day. I had been and returned on an Airbus A219.

I will send a 7Plus pic of the Place Harold Wilson for those who have
7Plus

Poor old Harold is not greatly revered in GBR so it is nice to think that
there is a monument to him in thwe sunny south of France.
