Rod:
You have to remember that when it comes to using anything USB
in Windows, is that Windows can (and will) randomly assign
the COM port numbers to each cable end tip.
So, if your USB cable has 5 ends, window will assign each cable
end it's own COM port number.
But, if later you unplug the USB side, and then plug it back into
a "Different" USB slot, windows will change the COM port numbers
for each end tip.
You litterally have to go into Windows Control Panel, and then to
Device Manager and scroll down and expand the "Ports (COM & LPT)"
section in order to see each cable tips newly assigned COM port #.
Alot of times after you've done this, if you leave the USB cable
ALWAYS plugged into THE SAME USB port, Windows will (usually)
assign the same COM port #'s to each tip. Like, say after a reboot.
But again, Windows can "sometimes" randonly switch them after a
reboot also.
Hope that helps.
